This provision is good
The childminder organises and manages her provision well. She is committed to continuously improving the quality of care and learning experiences for children. She effectively involves parents and children in the evaluation of her provision to ensure that their views are fully considered. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder has a strong understanding of how children learn and develop. She provides motivating and interesting activities to support each child with their next steps of learning. The childminder promotes the development of children's language and communication skills effectively. She interacts with children well and actively supports and extends their vocabulary. Children's emotional well-being is supported well. Children are happy and settled in this welcoming setting. They develop close emotional attachments to the childminder and enjoy her playfulness, cuddles and praise.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She is calm, consistent and very clear about how she expects them to behave. Children follow her good example and are very polite and respectful.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not find out as much as possible from parents about their children's learning to fully support her early identification of children's precise learning needs from the very start.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

expand the information gathered from parents initially, in order to plan even more precisely for children's continued progress from the very earliest stage.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults in the home. The inspector took the written views of a parent into account.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder maintains a safe environment through the use of risk assessments and health and safety policies that effectively underpin her practice. She has a secure knowledge of child protection procedures and knows how to record and report concerns to the appropriate authorities. She has good working relationships with parents. They share information regularly about children's development to promote continuity of care and learning. The childminder understands the importance of working with other agencies and professionals to make sure the needs of all children are met. The childminder continually promotes her professional development. She attends regular training to improve her knowledge and understanding. This has a positive impact on her teaching and the quality of her setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes and assesses children's learning and identifies their next steps in development. She then uses this information to extend children's learning and enjoyment of the activities. Children develop their fine-muscle movements as they use a variety of tools to make changes to the dough. They develop their understanding of how things work and happen as they push and pull levers to force the dough through a machine. Children have fun and the childminder encourages them to learn through play. Children laugh excitedly as they play spontaneous games, such as peek-a-boo. Children enjoy completing jigsaw puzzles, concentrating well. The childminder introduces mathematical language and number recognition into children's play from an early age to enhance mathematical development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a nurturing environment where children are very relaxed and happy. There are good arrangements for settling new children and ensuring that their individual needs are met. The childminder values each child as a unique individual. She helps them understand that everyone has individual needs and they learn to appreciate the wider world around them. Resources reflect a diverse society and outings help children understand about their community and the wider world. Children learn how to manage potential risks when, for example, they climb and balance on large apparatus. They have regular opportunities for physical play in the fresh air and go on trips to the nearby parks. A healthy lifestyle is promoted well. Children are beginning to understand about food that is good for them and the childminder provides nutritious meals and snacks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a good foundation for their future learning. They build the key skills needed to be ready for school. The childminder monitors children's progress from their starting points to ensure that gaps identified close quickly. Records show that children make good progress.
