Inspection activities

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is highly motivated and works extremely hard to provide the highest quality service for children and their families. Sine her last inspection, she has completed a wide range of training courses, including her level 3 childcare qualification, which has given her a solid understanding of how children develop, to plan highly challenging activities for them. She implements her new skills and knowledge very effectively. For example, she has improved her activities and assessment systems to focus specifically on what children learn, and closely monitors their progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder very effectively keeps her knowledge up to date and knows who to contact if she has concerns about children's welfare. Comprehensive policies and procedures underpin her excellent practice to help keep children safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder completes highly successful assessments of children's learning and progress. Her excellent evaluation of their progress helps her to accurately identify their next steps in learning and share this with parents, so they can effectively support children's learning at home. The childminder provides highly engaging learning experiences, which very skilfully challenge children. For example, they explore ice, naming the different shapes they find as well as comparing the different sizes. The childminder expertly follows their lead in play and gently guides them to extend their exploration and ideas. For example, they notice a rainbow outside and the childminder skilfully extends their interest in the weather by using and discussing pictures of different types of weather. She adeptly questions children to support their thinking, ensuring they develop excellent communication skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder provides an extremely welcoming and homely environment, which meets the needs of each child exceptionally well. Children are very relaxed. They know exactly what the childminder expects of them and play incredibly well together, and are very polite, kind and respectful. Children follow excellent hygiene practices and develop very good independence skills for when they start school. For example, they wash their hands, pour drinks and help to cut up their fruit. However, the childminder does not always extend this further so they can begin to dress themselves. Children have a very strong sense of self and enjoy learning about their families and local environment. They develop excellent physical skills and are active in many ways, including dancing and throwing.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are extremely eager learners who making excellent progress in relation to their starting points. They are exceedingly well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
