This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a stimulating and well-resourced learning environment. They are very happy, secure and settled. Children have lots of fun and participate enthusiastically in the many exciting learning opportunities available to them. The childminder has forged excellent relationships with parents. They are very complimentary about the childminder and rate the quality of her service highly. They praise her, 'Caring and child-centred approach' and the effective way important information is shared. Children develop good speaking, listening and understanding skills. This includes those who speak English as an additional language, disabled children and those with special educational needs. The childminder provides opportunities for meaningful conversations. She routinely reinforces the correct pronunciation of words and often asks questions that inspire children to think, listen and respond.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder regularly and robustly reflects on all aspects of her service and is constantly looking for ways to improve what she does. Improvements since her last inspection include converting an outside workshop into a playroom, creating additional space and enhanced facilities for adults and children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to enhance children's awareness of similarities and differences between people and among families, communities and traditions. The childminder has not placed enough emphasis on enhancing her skills, knowledge and practice and those of her assistant, in order to raise the good quality of her provision to a higher level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the parts of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector observed children engaged in a variety of activities. She completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector viewed evidence of the suitability of all adults living and working on the childminding premises. The inspector looked at a sample of policies, training records and children's assessment records. She also discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of some parents and children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is alert to the signs of possible abuse and neglect. She knows exactly what action to take if she or her assistant have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder effectively implements all legal requirements. Documentation is organised well and all required information is obtained from parents. The childminder and her assistant regularly discuss practice, individual children and the experiences they plan and provide. The childminder ensures that her assistant fully understands and rigorously follows her carefully considered policies and procedures.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Since the last inspection, the childminder has gained an early years qualification. This is reflected in her good quality teaching. She understands how children develop and learn. She recognises the importance of a good quality learning environment. The childminder regularly observes children and successfully plans challenging learning experiences that are accurately tailored to their needs, interests and abilities. Babies use all of their senses to explore a selection of objects placed within their easy reach. They shake a set of bells and are fascinated by the noise they make, repeating the action many times. Older children enjoy acting out familiar experiences. For example, they put dolls on their shoulders and pretend to go on an outing to the park. The childminder skilfully allows children's independent play and ideas to develop. Nevertheless, she remains close by, in case she is needed, for example, to reinforce safe practices and extend children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder closely monitors each child's progress and works in close partnership with parents and other professionals. This means that she is able to swiftly identify and effectively address any gaps in children's learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's emotional and physical well-being are promoted well. They receive good quality care and develop close bonds with all adults working in the setting. Children new to the childminder's care are gradually introduced to people, routines and her home. They quickly learn what to expect throughout the day because routines tend to follow a familiar pattern. The childminder provides children with lots of opportunities for physical exercise and outdoor play. They go on plenty of walks in the local environment and regularly visit nearby parks. The childminder closely supervises children and routinely reinforces road safety rules. Children behave well in relation to their ages and stages of development. The childminder has high expectations of behaviour and children quickly learn what is acceptable and what is not. She successfully leads by example and is very kind, calm and well mannered.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including disabled children and those with special education needs and who speak English as an additional language, make good progress from their starting points. They successfully develop key skills needed for school and future life. Children make lots of choices about their play and learning. Their independence is actively encouraged.
