The inspector looked through children's assessment records and reviewed a selection of records, policies and procedures. p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder places a high priority on reviewing his knowledge of child protection. He fully understands the procedures to follow should he have any concerns about a child's welfare. Overall, the childminder understands the importance of training and development to improve practice. He has recently allowed his first-aid certificate to lapse, although, he is booked on the next available course. The childminder has effectively addressed the recommendation from the previous inspection. Children are now provided with more opportunities to share their understanding of technology and know how to operate simple equipment. Robust risk assessments are completed in all areas, indoors and outdoors, and for all outings. This helps to make sure children are kept safe and well. The childminder is passionate about his provision and has an ambitious vision for the future.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Detailed information is gathered from all those involved in the children's care and learning, including parents and other professionals. The childminder uses this information exceedingly well and plans precise and focused activities that help to narrow any gaps in children's learning. He builds on children's growing mathematical understanding as they explore the world around them and provides exciting ways to help them sort objects according to shape or colour. Children's imaginations are ignited through high-quality role- play activities. They create their own characters and talk confidently as they play. The childminder follows children's interests particularly well and finds appropriate times to play alongside them to expertly promote their critical thinking. He sensitively joins in with their play and is animated in asking children what might happen next. Children are motivated to learn and deeply engaged in their play. They are very enthusiastic in their responses.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very settled, confident learners who show they have built a very secure relationship with the childminder. The childminder supports children's emotional needs well by the nurturing care he gives them. He provides regular praise and encouragement during play and celebrates children's achievements. This helps to support children's emotional development. Children's independence skills are exceptionally well catered for. They learn about age-appropriate self-care routines, such as feeding themselves and washing their own hands. The childminder provides children with a balanced diet and obtains information from parents about any allergies children may have. Children regularly walk to and from school and there are opportunities to be physically active at groups and play in the childminder's garden. Children develop an understanding about similarities and differences between themselves and others. They learn to value and respect diversity.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
The robust monitoring of children's learning and development shows they make excellent progress. All children make very rapid progress in their learning and are equipped with the key skills needed for their eventual move to school.
