This provision is good

 The childminder ensures children are safe by ensuring they are always well supervised and by implementing effective measures that minimise risks to children.  The childminder effectively monitors the progress children make in their learning and development. This helps her to ensure the activities she offers cover the seven areas of learning.  The childminder effectively supports children's communication and language development. This enables children to talk confidently and use a good range of vocabulary.  The childminder creates good opportunities for children to be independent. This effectively builds children's confidence and supports them in managing their own needs relevant to their age.  The childminder gives parents lots of information about how she operates her service and gathers good information about what children can do at home. This creates a consistent approach to meeting children's care and learning needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not have a clear plan for professional development to help her raise the good quality of her teaching and practice to an outstanding level.  The childminder has not made the most beneficial use of her partnerships with other settings to create a fully consistent approach to children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 seek and take advantage of further opportunities to engage in professional development that is focused on raising the quality of teaching to an outstanding level  engage even more effectively with practitioners from other settings, in order to create a fully consistent approach to teaching and learning for children who receive shared care and learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and assistant at appropriate times and discussed self-evaluation.  The inspector considered the views of parents and children.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage provided by the childminder.  The inspector checked the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective because the childminder has a good knowledge of the possible indicators of abuse. She is clear on the procedure to follow should a concern arise. This means she can respond swiftly, which minimises the risks to children. The childminder has a positive attitude to improving her service and has addressed the areas for improvement identified at the last inspection. This helps her in maintaining a good quality service. However, the childminder has not made the most of opportunities for professional development to raise the quality of her teaching from good to outstanding. The childminder occasionally works with an assistant. She demonstrates a good knowledge of how to monitor the work of the assistant should he work with her on a regular basis.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively supports children's personal, social and emotional skills. She helps children to develop their self-awareness and understand about members of their family. The childminder successfully extends children's mathematical development. This helps children to become confident in problem solving. Children are developing their skills in handling small objects because the childminder effectively supports their physical skills. The childminder has established relationships with teachers when children attend other settings and generally talks with them about the children's day. However, she has not extended these relationships to gain information to help her better plan for children's next steps in learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children know the routine well and are confident in the setting because the childminder offers lots of praise and reassurance. The childminder effectively supports children's emotional well-being, particularly during the time when children are new to the setting. This helps children to be happy and confident in the childminder's care. Children practice good hygiene and have healthy meals. This effectively promotes healthy lifestyles. The childminder has a good range of resources and provides experiences based on children's interests. This means children are stimulated and motivated in their play. The childminder makes good use of her outdoor area and the local community. This effectively supports children's physical well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development because the childminder is an effective teacher. She knows the areas where children need to develop and focuses her support in these areas. This effectively supports children to acquire the key skills required for their next stage in learning.
