This provision is good
The childminder has increased her knowledge and skills since the last inspection through training. This has a positive effect on how she engages with children. The childminder continuously evaluates her provision to help her identify ways to develop it further, which helps her to maintain her good standards. The childminder organises her time effectively and provides an interesting and stimulating place for children to play and explore. Children confidently choose what to play with and initiate their own play and learning. The childminder makes ongoing assessments of children's progress and involves parents fully in the process. She plans many worthwhile activities inside and outside the home to help children progress. The childminder forges strong bonds with children and supports their emotional well- being. She helps them learn about the world around them and to respect others, for example, by providing books and toys that promote diversity.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not complete an assessment when children first start to help inform planning from the outset and to provide a complete picture of their progress from their starting points. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to help children sort groups of objects, by size for example, to promote their early mathematical development.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with the children and the activities she provides. The inspector had discussions with the childminder and the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records, safeguarding procedures and information provided to parents. The inspector took into account the views of parents as expressed in written responses to the childminder's questionnaires and discussed the childminder's methods of self- evaluation. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with current legislation and guidance to help her know how to keep children safe and deal with a child protection concern. She has addressed the recommendations made at the last inspection, which has attributed to her maintaining her good standards and developing stronger relationships with parents. She has attained a relevant qualification that has involved increasing her understanding of how children learn. This has a positive effect on outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts well with children. For example, she models words and describes what children are doing as they play, which helps them develop a good understanding of their actions. The childminder generally has a good focus on helping children develop their mathematical skills. Children were captivated as they explored jelly and compared the bears the childminder had placed in it. Children showed they are becoming capable talkers. Older children said the jelly felt 'slimy' and described the sizes of the bears, showing they are beginning to recognise differences in size. Younger children used their senses and talked about the smell of the jelly. The childminder prompted the children to count the bears. The childminder teaches children about the natural world through real experiences. For example, children feed the calves and brush the goats on trips to the farm. The childminder works with other early years providers that children attend to

provide continuity in their care and learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder welcomes children warmly into her home. She is sensitive to children's emotional needs and works closely with parents to help children settle and build confidence. The childminder uses age-appropriate methods to help children learn how to behave. For example, she gently reminds children to share and take turns as they play, and praises them for doing so. She teaches children to keep safe, such as by wearing high-visibility jackets when they are out walking. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, she explains to children that they need to wash their hands to get rid of germs that make them ill. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to develop good levels of physical strength and skills; these include playing at the park and on wheeled toys in her garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development in relation to their starting points, including those with communication and language delay. They are well prepared for the next stages in their learning.
