This provision is good

 The manager, who is also the provider, has taken prompt and effective action to address the actions set from the last inspection. The evaluation of the pre-school is now effective in identifying any areas that require improvement. The manager and staff are committed to continuing to improve the outcomes for children with their focused improvement plans.  Children form warm, caring bonds with their key person, other staff and each other. Staff provide a warm, welcoming environment where children feel safe, secure and settle well.  Staff support children to develop good levels of independence. Children are encouraged to attend to their own self-care needs, such as putting on their own coats and shoes. They also take part in tidying up resources and serving themselves food and drink for snack.  Staff have a good knowledge of how children learn. They engage children well in activities. Staff actively encourage children's imaginations and creativity. Children

regularly engage in role-play and craft activities where they develop their understanding of the world and their self-esteem.  Staff form successful partnerships with parents. They regularly update parents on their children's progress and welcome their views towards assessments of children's development. Parents are effectively supported to extend children's learning at home.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not always make the most of opportunities for children to learn and talk about the positive effects that physical exercise and healthy eating have on their bodies.  Staff do not consistently share information about children's development with the other early years settings children attend.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide children with more opportunities to understand the importance of keeping themselves fit and healthy and the positive effect this has on their bodies  strengthen partnerships and the two-way flow of communication with the other early years settings children attend to provide more consistency for children in their learning and development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the pre-school's manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the pre-school's manager, who is also the provider. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the pre-school's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the pre-school.  The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.  The inspector spoke to staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff can identify the possible indicators of abuse and know the appropriate action to take if they have concerns about a child. Staff place a high importance on keeping children safe. Their robust risk assessments and health and safety checks effectively promote children's safety. The manager has ensured that staff have renewed their first-aid qualifications since the last inspection. She makes sure that there is always a qualified member of staff on the premises to attend to children's injuries. Staff receive regular supervision meetings with the manager. She reviews their training needs and sets them targets to work towards to ensure the quality of teaching and care remains strong.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-qualified staff get to know children well through regular observations and accurate assessments of what they can do. They use this information to plan activities that are based around children's individual learning needs and interests. Children are confident communicators and engage in social interactions with ease. They have good language skills, which are extended by staff through skilful questioning and repetition of words and phrases. Children also have access to weekly French lessons. Staff know the appropriate times to intervene in activities to build on children's learning further. Children develop their reading and writing skills well. Staff display enthusiasm and interest as they read books to the children. They encourage them to recognise letters and sounds in their play. Children have many opportunities to draw and develop their small-muscles skills in preparation for learning to write.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour. They set clear, age-appropriate boundaries and gently remind children of these throughout the day. Staff support children to use good manners and show care and concern for their peers. Children follow good hygiene routines and are supported to manage risk for themselves, with staff close by. Children are confident to access a wide range of stimulating resources. They show high levels of self-esteem and take pride in their achievements. Children are emotionally prepared for the move to school. They regularly visit the school playground and classrooms, try on uniforms and talk about what school will be like. Children eat healthily and have daily access to the outdoor area. They regularly use the school climbing equipment and have a weekly musical-movement session. Staff encourage children to understand and appreciate different cultures and ways of life.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make typical progress, and most make better than typical progress given their starting points and capabilities. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including school. The manager regularly monitors children's progress to identify any emerging gaps in children's development. She takes the appropriate action to provide the support that children need in order to continue to make good progress.
