Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector toured the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation including evidence of the childminder's qualifications, Disclosure and Barring Service checks for the childminder and people living in the home over 16 years old. The childminder looked at a selection of policies and procedures, including the safeguarding policy and children's learning records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Children are protected by the childminder because she has a secure knowledge of her role and responsibilities in safeguarding children. The childminder works closely with parents and other professionals to ensure that children make good progress. The childminder holds an early years qualification and is committed to developing her practice through further training. She works closely with her assistant to ensure good quality provision. She evaluates the effectiveness of the setting and considers the views of her assistant, parents and children when identifying areas for improvement. This helps to have a positive impact on the care and education she provides for children. Parents are very pleased with their children's development and the quality of the learning experiences they receive from this motivated childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carries out comprehensive observations of children's learning. She identifies and records their starting points and makes accurate assessments of their progress. The childminder involves parents in planning and supporting what their children need to learn next. She ensures that any gaps are identified early, and appropriate interventions are carefully planned and promptly implemented. The childminder skilfully interacts with children and uses every opportunity to build on their learning. For example, children love singing the festive songs they learn and are enthusiastic to talk about the Christmas story. The tracking and monitoring of children's development are timely and accurate. The childminder uses this information effectively to help prepare children for their future move on to nursery or school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works well with parents to gather information about their children's individual needs and routines. She uses this information well, to implement the home routines which children are familiar with. This helps children settle well and feel a sense of belonging. Children learn about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They have good opportunities to play outside and are given nutritious meals and snacks. The childminder teaches children about the importance of following effective hygiene procedures and about personal safety. The childminder welcomes children to a happy and fun environment, in which they use a wide selection of toys and resources with confidence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
