This provision is good
The childminder knows the children very well. She is able to adapt her practice to reflect the different needs of children in her care, which helps extend their learning. The childminder supports the children's emotional well-being well. For example, she cuddles, reassures and praises them to build on their self-esteem. The childminder constantly reflects and evaluates her practice. She monitors and tracks children's progress and identifies any gaps in learning or areas for development. This helps her to continually improve the quality of learning for children in her care. The childminder keeps up to date with professional development and training to improve her knowledge and skills. For example, she attended a recent safeguarding course to update her knowledge after recent changes. Children develop good skills, such as independence, that help them as they move on to the next stage of their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder shares information with parents but does not always give them enough details on how they can further extend their children's learning at home and fully involve them in planning their children's next steps in learning. The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to learn about, value and develop an understanding of their own and other cultures. This does not always strengthen their awareness of diversity and difference.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed interaction between the childminder and children. The inspector sampled documentation, including planning, children's development records, and policies and procedures. The inspector took into account written and verbal views of parents. The childminder gave the inspector a tour of the premises. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development needs of children in her care and how to keep them safe. She regularly reviews risks in her home and the environment and minimises any hazards to help keep children safe. The childminder is aware of signs and symptoms that may cause her concern and has clear procedures to follow if she suspects a child is at risk of harm. Safeguarding is effective. Effective systems are in place for the childminder to evaluate her practice and work on any areas for improvement. The childminder keeps up to date with practice changes and shares this information with parents. The childminder has an effective partnership with other settings and shares information regularly to help with children's continuity of learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The children are happy and confident, and have a good relationship with the childminder. She provides a good range of activities that promote children's learning. For example, the childminder followed children's interests and after a visit to the farm used figures and puppets to re-tell their experience and extend their learning. Children are able to easily access a variety of toys and resources. This helps children to become motivated and independent learners. Children make good progress in their communication and language skills. For example, the childminder introduces words, extends vocabulary and uses props and gestures to make stories come alive.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment. Children develop independence as they are encouraged to be responsible for their own needs. For example, children are aware of healthy practices, such as washing hands after using the toilet. Children's behaviour is very good and the childminder role models good behaviour. She teaches them to take turns, share and respect each other. The childminder provides children with healthy food and snacks. She teaches them good hygiene routines and the importance of being healthy. Children have the freedom to explore the environment and make sense of the world around them. For example, after a recent visit to the farm, the childminder helped children pick fruit then provided it as a snack to eat. Children develop good social and communication skills, for example, as they visit parks and other groups. Children engage in physical play and enjoy the many outdoor activities that the
