Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder with the children. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled some documentation, including policies, qualification certificates and children's records. The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector took account of the views of parents through their comments on recent questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of, and effectively implements, the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She uses this knowledge well to promote children's welfare and learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder effectively uses information she gains from other training she attends to enhance activities for children. She regularly networks with other childminders to share information and practice ideas. This helps her to provide interesting learning opportunities for children. The childminder closely monitors the progress of individual children. This means that she can highlight any possible gaps in children's learning and plan appropriate intervention.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of the childminder's teaching is good. She has a good knowledge of children's learning needs and she plans age-appropriate and challenging activities to support children in their learning. Activities are interesting and resources reflect the interest and abilities of all children. Children move around the space available and take charge of their play. Children enjoy engaging in pretend play and they use a range of resources to act out their own experiences, such as cooking meals and washing clothes. The childminder extends children's language development well; for example, she comments on children's play and repeats back clearly what they say. This helps children to gain more confidence in communicating with the childminder and their peers. Children confidently count and discuss shapes as they play, showing strong mathematical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a kind and caring manner. Children develop strong bonds with her, which promotes their emotional well-being effectively. Children are happy, settled and explore the environment confidently. Children grow in independence and learn about the importance of a healthy diet as, for example, they help prepare their own fruit at snack times. The childminder teaches the children about effective hygiene routines, and they are encouraged to be independent in their personal care. This supports children to develop good health and hygiene practices. The childminder helps children to develop their small muscles. For example, children use tweezers in sorting games. They use the childminder's garden as well as go on walks and play in local parks to help encourage their physical development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children progress well from their starting points and quickly gain the confidence needed to try new experiences. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including their eventual move on to school.
