Effectiveness of the leadership and management Requires improvement Quality of teaching, learning and assessment Requires improvement Personal development, behaviour and welfare Requires improvement Outcomes for children

p.1

This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:

 The childminder has not ensured that she has notified Ofsted of significant changes and events. This is also a breach of the Childcare Register.  Self-evaluation procedures are not effective in identifying the weaknesses in practice and the legal requirements. This means that the childminder is unable to bring about improvements to her practice and children's experiences.  The childminder does not always support children to make their own choices and develop their ideas to increase their independence.  Interactions with children are not always sufficient to support their play and interests.

p.1

It has the following strengths

 The childminder has suitable partnerships with parents and other settings children attend. This helps to promote a shared approach to supporting children's individual needs.  Children play in a safe environment. The childminder she supervises them closely and guides them on how to stay safe.  Children develop positive attitudes and good behaviour. The childminder encourages them to follow healthy hygiene routines and wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2

Due Date

 improve knowledge and understanding of responsibilities to notify Ofsted of significant events and changes. 31/12/2015

p.2

Due Date

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Due Date

 use self-evaluation more effectively to identify weakness in practice and childcare knowledge in order to improve children's experiences  improve opportunities for children to develop their independence skills to help them to follow their own ideas  strengthen interactions with children to support their play and interests.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children taking part in activities.  The inspector took account of the views of children.  The inspector viewed relevant documentation, such as suitability checks.  The inspector had discussions with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement

The childminder failed to inform Ofsted of a significant change to her household. For example, she has not informed Ofsted that she has married and her husband now lives with her. This is a breach of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Childcare Register requirements. The childminder does not effectively use self-evaluation to accurately monitor and identify weaknesses in her practice and childcare knowledge to improve the quality of her provision. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training to develop her understanding of her role and responsibilities to help support children's welfare. The childminder has suitable partnerships with parents.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement

The childminder provides children with some suitable activities that occupy them after their day at school. She joins in with children's play and activities. However, the childminder's interactions do not always support their interests and ideas sufficiently. For example, she does not talk to children at a level appropriate to their age and understanding to increase their enjoyment of the activity. Children do not always have opportunities to make their own choices and follow their ideas. For example, during a craft activity, the childminder directed the children in how to complete it rather than let them use their own ideas. Children confidently talk to the childminder about their time at school. The childminder listens to them and helps them to complete their homework. This helps the childminder to complement the children's learning at school.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement

The childminder has not met all the legal requirements to ensure Ofsted are informed of any changes. However, this does not have a significant impact on children's welfare. The childminder has obtained a Disclosure and Barring Service check for her husband to check his suitability to be on the premises when children are present. The childminder has suitable relationships with children. She works with parents to meet children's care needs. The childminder has links with the school and shares information gathered from the teachers with parents. The childminder takes children on regular outings to explore the local community. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, they practise emergency evacuation drills and learn road safety. This helps to support children's health and physical well-being.
