This provision is good

 The childminder models good behaviour for children. She is friendly, warm and caring towards children, and they are polite and learn to share and take turns.  The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She monitors children's progress based on regular observations of their achievements. Children's outcomes are good and some are achieving beyond typical development for their age.  The childminder has made improvements on her last inspection. For example, she works closely with parents and other early years providers to share information on children's learning and development. This helps to promote consistency in children's learning and development.  The childminder has positive conversations with children. She builds children's communication skills well and establishes secure emotional bonds with children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the most of her good self-evaluation to refine her improvement plans.  The childminder does not always remove distractions for children, such as other games and toys, in order for children to focus on one activity at a time during planned tasks.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector spoke to the childminder about previous inspection recommendations and her knowledge of early years education and care.  The inspector observed the childminder and children during adult-led activities and free play.  The inspector reviewed documentation, including certificates, policies and children's journals.  The inspector observed children during mealtimes.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to respond to any concerns that children's welfare may be at risk. The childminder attends regular training and meetings. She uses this information to help improve her quality of teaching practice and update her knowledge. The childminder promotes children's safety and is aware of how to minimise risks to children. For example, she conducts daily checks of the home for hazards. The childminder monitors her educational programme effectively. She provides children with a wide range of activities that give them a good understanding of diversity in the world around them.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how to support the learning and development needs of the children she cares for. She keeps children engaged and motivated in their learning. Children enjoy reading books with the childminder and have fun responding to her questions. For example, the childminder asks children, 'How does jelly move?' and they laugh as they pretend to wobble. Children are well prepared for the next stages of their learning. The childminder teaches children early mathematical skills, such as counting. The childminder follows children's lead well. For example, when children show an interest in shopping role play, the childminder pretends to be a shopkeeper to extend their chosen play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are familiar with the daily routine. For example, children know to wash their hands before mealtimes and tidy up after their play. The childminder encourages children to develop healthy lifestyles and good eating habits. For example, she takes them outside for physical exercise and attends healthy cooking sessions with children. The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn about managing their own safety. For example, she practises fire evacuation with children, to help them be aware of how to keep themselves safe in the event of an emergency. The childminder helps children to have a strong sense of belonging. Children frequently cuddle the childminder and enjoy telling her about places they have been to and family members they spend time with.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and some exceed this in some areas. The childminder is aware of how to teach children according to their individual learning needs. She has high expectations that they can achieve. Children are prepared well for school.
