Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends safeguarding refresher courses to keep her knowledge updated. She knows how to identify and refer concerns regarding children's welfare and safety. The childminder uses effective strategies to monitor and evaluate her provision for children. She attends further training and completes regular research. She uses the knowledge gained to continue to improve the interesting range of experiences she provides to support children's learning. Successful communication with parents ensures that they are fully included in all aspects of their children's development and progress.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder completes focused observations and assessments of children's learning and development. She uses these successfully to track children's progress. She identifies areas to work on in order to help children build on what they know and can do. The childminder interacts with children as they play, extending their learning and challenging them. For example, children enjoy playing with pasta and water. The childminder provides a wide range of resources to enhance the children's interest of filling and emptying the containers. She speaks to them about colours and supports them to count the objects they are using. The childminder successfully supports all areas of learning. Children request painting and are offered a wide range of age-appropriate tools to use. This helps to promote their fine physical skills, creativity and enjoyment of exploring different textures.

p.3

The childminder provides a calm, organised and safe environment for children's care and learning. She forms exceptionally positive relationships with children, identifying and meeting their individual emotional needs at all times. The childminder provides highly nutritious, home-cooked meals that meet children's individual dietary needs. Children of a young age have excellent levels of concentration as they complete self-chosen activities. A superb range of outings and experiences promotes children's social skills and awareness of the world around them. Children learn to keep themselves safe as they play and during outings. This is because the childminder encourages them to consider risks and identify for themselves how to behave safely. Consequently, they display a mature understanding of the importance of following rules and behave exceptionally well. Parents are very well informed about their children's progress and achievements.
