This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder provides children a wide range of toys and resources that children can choose from independently, which motivates their play and encourages their learning. The childminder develops warm relationships with younger children. Children feel settled and emotionally secure. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills extremely well. Older children quickly develop a good vocabulary and are very confident in talking to adults and to each other. The childminder develops good relationships with parents, who speak highly of her. Her communication with them ensures that she involves them fully in their children's learning. Children behave extremely well; the childminder is a good role model and teaches children about routines that encourage positive play and strong friendships.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make the most of every opportunity to extend the development of children's early mathematical skills. The childminder has not used her established relationships with other settings children attend to share children's learning and development as fully as she might.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents provided in writing on the day of the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder, a selection of children's records and safeguarding policies, and discussed her self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her roles and responsibilities in promoting children's learning and development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures that she keeps up to date with current legislation and attends regular training to keep her skills and knowledge up to date. This means that if she has concerns about the welfare of a child, she knows what action to take. The childminder regularly reviews the quality of her provision and gains the views of parents and children. She uses this to guide her continuous improvement, which has a positive outcome for children. The childminder monitors children's progress closely and plans for their future progress well. This ensures that children make the best possible progress in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is experienced and uses her skills and knowledge to provide good-quality teaching. The childminder gathers information from parents when children first start to make initial assessments about their development. She then regularly observes, assesses and monitors children's learning and development to plan for their future learning. Activities are based on children's individual interests and they thoroughly enjoy playing with the childminder, who extends their learning well. For example, children enjoy using blocks to build a house with the childminder. The childminder helps to develop children's communication and language skills. For instance, she talks to them and encourages them to think through ideas, so that they have time to respond and develop their own ideas and thoughts.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very happy and confident in the childminder's welcoming home. They demonstrate that they feel safe and secure with the childminder, who responds warmly to them so that they form positive attachments. In turn, children demonstrate a caring and affectionate relationship with each other. Children learn good social skills; they attend groups, where they can play with other children, for example. They are able to learn about the wider community through resources and activities that teach them about similarities and differences between themselves and others. The childminder teaches children about a healthy lifestyle. Children learn some personal care routines that are appropriate to their age.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making progress that is appropriate for their age. Children develop good communication and language skills. They learn to become independent and confident, ready for their next stage in learning, such as pre-school or school.
