This provision is good
The childminder provides interesting activities that motivate children to learn. She accurately assesses children's progress and plans to meet their individual needs. All children, including those with additional needs, make good progress. Children develop good hygiene practices and self-care skills. They behave well, play cooperatively and learn to respect one another. Children develop positive relationships with the childminder. She responds to their individual needs well. She provides lots of praise and encouragement, and children develop good self-esteem. Partnerships with parents are strong. The regular sharing of information helps involve parents in their child's learning and provides continuity for children. The childminder reflects on her practice effectively. She considers what works well and where to make improvements. She gains the views of parents and children to help maintain good standards and positive outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to extend children's awareness of numbers, to develop fully their early mathematical skills. The childminder does not always ensure that children's play opportunities outdoors are as good as those indoors, to further extend the good learning and development of those children who prefer to learn outside.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about what she would do if she had any concerns about a child's welfare. She carries out regular risk assessments to help ensure children are kept safe while in her care. She monitors children's progress effectively by observing them in their play and daily activities. She uses her findings to effectively address any gaps in their learning and shares this information with parents. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date through regular training. She shares ideas with other childminders and maintains a good standard of teaching practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her regular observations and assessments to plan for children's needs. She is enthusiastic and engages children well in their learning. For example, children have lots of fun as they bake cookies and play different games where they learn to take turns. The childminder knows when to join in and when to stand back. Children invite the childminder into their play. They enjoy opportunities to play independently and receive plenty of help and guidance from the childminder. Children benefit from activities that promote their physical skills effectively. For instance, they enjoy outdoor play and using different tools during cooking activities. these activities help to prepare children well for the next stage in learning.
p.3

They develop an understanding of similarities and differences between themselves and others through a variety of activities. For example, they learn about different festivals and play with resources that reflect diversity. Children develop good social skills as they learn to mix with other children. They learn to keep themselves safe; for example, they take part in regular evacuation drills and discussions about road safety when on outings. Children learn about healthy lifestyles.
