Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play and interactions indoors and outdoors. The inspector sampled documentation, such as operational policies and procedures and required records, including those relating to suitability. The inspector took into account the written and spoken views of parents. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about children's development. The inspector viewed the childminder's self-evaluation form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an exceptionally good awareness of requirements and her responsibility in protecting children's welfare. She has a good knowledge of the procedures to follow regarding any safeguarding concerns. She implements very clear recruitment and employment procedures and regularly monitors her assistant's practice to support her role and continue assessing suitability. The childminder is highly reflective of her practice and frequently attends training that helps her make very successful improvements. For example, she has completed training on recent changes in safeguarding legislation. This has inspired her to implement innovative ideas for protecting children and developing their resilience further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder is highly responsive to children's different styles of learning and skilfully supports them to become confident, active learners. Children develop their imagination extremely well. For example, they enjoy playing hairdressers using an excellent variety of resources and excitedly pretend to wash and cut the childminder's hair. Children develop high levels of understanding of the world and enjoy many varied outings together. For instance, they have great fun collecting shells on a trip to the beach, exploring a nearby forest or seeing different animals on a visit to a favourite zoo. The childminder uses resources innovatively to engage children's interest and expertly promote their learning. The childminder frequently monitors children's progress and accurately identifies their next steps of learning. She plans for these through exciting, purposeful play experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder provides a highly nurturing and inclusive approach and all children are clearly very much welcomed and valued. They gain an excellent awareness of good hygiene practices. For example, they confidently explain when and why they should wash their hands to help remove germs. Children develop excellent social interaction with their friends and play cooperatively. They happily settle to sleep, showing they feel safe and content. The childminder talks to children about their families and helps them develop a sense of belonging. However, very occasionally she misses some opportunities to fully extend children's sense of self and learn more about the similarities and differences within their lives and those of others. Parents' written comments note the childminder has bundles of energy and enthusiasm, and she and her co-childminder are shining examples of best practice.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children develop extremely good self-care and independence skills. They respond very positively to the continual praise and encouragement given and become confident communicators. This gives children an excellent foundation for their future learning.
