This provision is good
The childminder's home is welcoming and well resourced. She plans a broad range of activities, and children can choose what they would like to do. Overall, children are motivated and eager to play and join in activities with the childminder and their friends. The childminder knows the children well and plans effectively for their learning. Her teaching and interactions are purposeful, and make a positive impact on how well children learn. Children are making good progress in relation to their starting points. Children have a warm bond with the childminder. She gives clear messages so that children understand her expectations. Children behave very well. The childminder implements her policies and procedures effectively to promote children's safety and healthy lifestyles. Partnerships with others who share the care of children are embedded well. These complement children's learning and support consistency in children's development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not have many opportunities to speak about real-life events to promote their recall of different experiences and to use language to recreate roles and experiences, during role play for example. Art and craft activities are not always planned effectively to engage participation and offer enjoyment for all ages of children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children during their play and in their interactions with the childminder. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's records. The inspector spoke with the childminder about how she works with parents and others involved in children's care. The inspector spoke to the childminder about how she evaluates her practice and children's learning. The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation record. The inspector discussed with the childminder how the training she has completed has supported her practice and updated her skills.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has updated her knowledge in relation to new legislation. She has a good awareness of child protection matters. The childminder uses her good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage to ensure she promotes children's health, safety and well-being effectively. Her risk assessments effectively identify and reduce risks to help maintain a safe environment. The childminder evaluates her practice and monitors children's learning well. She attends training to increase her knowledge and update her skills, and has well-targeted plans for future training. Parents are positive about the care their children receive. They speak about the good communication they receive and the interesting activities children enjoy. The childminder evaluates her practice well and uses feedback from parent questionnaire responses to plan for her continuous improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is attentive to children's needs. She takes time to find out about children's interests and achievements when they start with her. The childminder uses her focussed observations and assessments to support her planning for children's next steps of learning. Her teaching skills promote children's learning well. She fosters children's language and thinking skills quite well as children play. The childminder gives directions and advice, for example, when children are completing jigsaw puzzles, to help them solve problems independently. She gives good attention to most areas of children's learning and all children are achieving at least expected levels of development for their age.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have warm bonds with the childminder, who is a good role model. They are happy and emotionally secure. Children's independence is developing well. They confidently take part in activities and contently play alongside each other. Children treat each other and their surroundings with respect. Children have regular and varied outdoor experiences, which benefit their wider learning. Children are learning about healthy lifestyles. They understand good hygiene routines from an early age. They know to get a tissue to blow their nose, and to wash their hands prior to eating.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress in relation to their starting points. They enjoy a broad variety of learning experiences. Children are well prepared for the next stages of their learning.
