The qualified childminder has an excellent understanding how to facilitate the children's development. Her high-quality observations are used effectively to plan an excellent range of enjoyable and challenging learning experiences. Parents are very well informed about all aspects of their children's care and learning. The childminder implements specific activities to support parents to engage in their children's learning. She continues to update her skills and constantly reviews her practice to enhance outcomes for children. They use their critical thinking skills to work out which objects will fit into the tubes and how to solve the problem to collect rice they spill on the floor. The childminder is highly responsive to children's needs and skilfully questions the children to challenge them further. Children take part in the Christmas game she has made, throwing the dice and counting confidently. The childminder provides excellent support. Children learn about the numbers and to recognise which are 'one more' or 'one less'. Occasionally, the childminder misses some opportunities to incorporate early literacy activities spontaneously.
