p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder is an excellent role model. She shows children how to interact sensitively with each other and show consideration towards others' feelings.  Children are happy and feel secure because the childminder forms good relationships with them and parents, to support their emotional development.  Children learn to take control of their own learning as they confidently explore and choose equipment they want to play with.  The childminder follows children's interests and plans enjoyable and exciting experiences that help children to develop positive attitudes to learning.  The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date, for example, by regularly attending a wide range of courses. This has helped her to provide a wider range of opportunities to extend children's skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully established a two-way flow of information about children's progress with other settings that they attend, to build on learning experiences.  The childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to explore a wide variety of mathematical language.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend partnerships with other providers to further develop a consistent approach to children's learning needs  develop the programme for mathematics by encouraging children's understanding of mathematical language.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children playing together and with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector considered parents' views by reading letters written for the inspection.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection about how she manages her practice and challenges children's learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documents, including the complaints policy and children's journals.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a very good understanding of her responsibilities. She is dedicated and plans for improvement through effective self-evaluation. The childminder takes into consideration children's views when planning activities; for example, they are able to choose equipment for the garden. Since the last inspection, the childminder has addressed all the recommendations well. She has improved her methods for monitoring children's progress, which helps her to make plans to support gaps in their learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to identify behaviour that may cause concern about a child's welfare and she knows exactly what to do if she has concerns.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children learn to develop positive attitude towards learning because the childminder is enthusiastic about their play. She provides a good balance between organised activities and those children choose for themselves. For example, she prepares dolls and clothes, ready for children to play with as soon as they arrive. Children use their imagination well to pretend to feed the dolls and lay them to sleep. Children enjoy a wide range of activities and have plenty of space to play in, including outdoors. They learn how to explore and investigate, such as when making dough. The childminder builds on their interests well, for example, by encouraging them to find out what happens when they mix paint.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well. They develop good language and communication skills, for example, through constant discussion with the childminder. They learn to extend these skills to form new friendships, preparing them well for their eventual move on to school. The childminder builds on children's understanding about the world around them, for example, by displaying positive images of a diverse range of people. Children develop an understanding of being healthy. They enjoy playing in the outdoor area and develop good physical skills though a range of opportunities, such as riding bikes or scooters.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are constantly busy and learn skills across all areas of learning, preparing them well for the next stage of their development and eventual move on to school.
