p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 share information about children's next steps in their learning more effectively with other early years provisions they attend, to better support and complement their learning  provide more opportunities for younger children to learn about the use technology.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the childminder's house and spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed the areas of the house and garden used for childminding.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of household members and a range of other documentation, including safeguarding procedures and the attendance register.  The inspector took into account the views of parents as recorded in written letters and references.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records and discussed these with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to identify and report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder uses risk assessment effectively to ensure play areas and outings are safe. She is committed to continuous improvement and further professional development. The childminder has accessed a variety of training to extend her already good understanding of child development and improve outcomes for children. She has successfully met previous recommendations from the last inspection well, which has had a positive impact on children's learning and development. The childminder has positive and effective partnerships with parents, keeping them well informed about their children's progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is experienced and provides a wide range of resources and activities suitable for children of all ages and stages of development. Children particularly enjoy reading books with the childminder and singing songs and rhymes. The childminder talks to children to help them build on their existing language and asks them questions, giving them time to think and respond. The childminder successfully identifies and plans for children's next steps in their learning. She accurately records children's achievements through photographs and maintains detailed observations and assessments. This helps her to monitor children's progress and take action to close any achievement gaps. She uses play that children enjoy to provide a range of learning opportunities. For example, she helps younger children learn to turn the pages when reading stories.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder cares for children in a welcoming environment. She teaches children to behave well, take turns and share. The childminder provides healthy snacks and drinking water, and teaches children about the importance of good health. Children are confident and independent. For example, the childminder encourages them to learn to eat by themselves. Children learn a range of skills, which prepares them well for future learning and gives them confidence to explore their environment. Younger children go with the childminder to pick up older children from school; this helps them to become familiar with teachers and the schools that they will attend.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good
