Teaching is good and the childminder has a secure understanding of how children like to learn. Children make good ongoing progress in their development and achieve good outcomes.  Children are happy and their behaviour is good. This is because the childminder develops good relationships with children and supports them if they choose different activities to take part in.  The childminder makes effective observations of children's learning to monitor their progress and to help detect any gaps in children's learning. She puts clear plans in place to close them. She regularly updates her knowledge and training to help improve her work.  The childminder talks calmly and respectfully to children. They learn how to be considerate of one another and to think about how others might feel.

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides children with good opportunities to socialise and mix with larger groups of children. This helps them to develop the skills they need for the next stages in learning.

p.1

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding matters and knows what to do in the event of concerns about a child. Since registration, the childminder has attended training in areas of learning and development to extend her skills and knowledge. She fosters good relationships with parents to help children feel secure in the setting.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder ensures that children take part in a wide range of different learning experiences to promote their learning across all areas. During the inspection, children enjoyed discovering how to make things work by exploring buttons and levers on a range of simple toys that made lights and different noises. The childminder introduces numbers and counting appropriately during activities, and children liked experimenting with balancing items of different sizes and weights. Children enjoy their time in the childminder's garden. They become absorbed as they dig in plant pots, using small garden tools to help them. They benefit physically from running around outside in the open air. The childminder works well with parents to keep them updated about their children's progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides children with a warm, welcoming environment. She organises resources well to enable children to make independent choices about their play and follow their own ideas and interests. Children have good opportunities to develop their social skills and to learn about the community in which they live. For example, they visit various places such as the local library and shops. The children learn how to keep themselves safe through discussion with the childminder and during routines, such as practising the fire drill. Children learn about keeping healthy. For example, she talks to them about their healthy snacks and ensures children have daily opportunities to play and exercise outdoors. The childminder helps young children to learn how to share and take turns. These experiences help to prepare them for the next step in their lives.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their communication, language and number skills, given their starting points. They develop well socially and emotionally and achieve good outcomes. The childminder supports children well in preparing for their next stages in learning, and their eventual move to school.
