This provision is good
The childminder is very caring. She is committed to her work with children and meets their individual needs. This helps children to feel secure and confident and supports their emotional well-being. The childminder has established effective settling-in procedures to ensure that children and their parents become familiar with her, her home and the family pet. The home environment is welcoming and well resourced. There are several pictures of children and their work on display, and toys and resources are clean and easily accessible. Activities are planned in line with the learning needs and interests of the children. This means that children are motivated, engaged and make good progress in their learning. The childminder has established good links with the local school. She works with Reception class teachers to ensure that children are well supported in their moves to, and between, settings.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always gather the views of parents and children, in order to plan precisely for the further development of her service. Children's learning with regard to people, cultures and communities beyond their own experiences is not fully promoted.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
improve opportunities for parents and children to contribute to the self-evaluation process and to develop excellent provision for children strengthen opportunities for children to learn about other people, cultures and the wider world.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed interactions between the children and the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector sampled some of the documents the childminder uses to underpin her practice. The inspector observed all areas in the home used for childminding. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder maintains the required documentation and records to support the safe and efficient management of the setting. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the procedure to follow should she become concerned about a child. She keeps her knowledge on child protection and first aid up to date. The childminder monitors her provision and maintains a good quality service. However, she does not always use the views of parents and children to help her provide even higher-quality experiences for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge of child development to provide play activities that encourage children's investigations. She plays alongside them, talking to them about what they are doing and asking questions that inspire them to explore. Babies are provided with stimulating treasure baskets and a range of resources that engage their interest and motivate their learning. The childminder's ongoing knowledge of the children is gained through her regular observation and assessment of their achievements. The childminder uses the specific interests of each child effectively to plan targeted activities that support their individual progress. She accesses additional learning resources provided by the local authority to further support the individual learning needs of children. The childminder develops effective partnerships with parents, working together to meet each child's care and learning needs through a supportive approach.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides an inclusive environment where children are treated with love and respect. She gives children consistent praise and encouragement as they play. This helps to build their self-esteem and confidence. Children's emotional well-being is effectively supported as the childminder is attuned to children's individual care needs. This helps young children to settle into the provision quickly. The childminder makes good use of community facilities to complement the learning that takes place in her home. Children visit the park, farm shop and museums. There are fewer opportunities for children to gain an understanding of people in the wider world, beyond their immediate family and community. The childminder provides children with healthy meals and snacks. This helps to promote their understanding of healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder tracks children's progress in all areas of learning. This helps her to identify any gaps in development so that she can purposefully support children's learning and prepare them for school. Children make good progress and are working very comfortably within the range of development typical for their age.
