This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She closely checks each child's progress to help her to identify and swiftly close any emerging gaps in their learning. Children reach good outcomes in learning key skills. The childminder accurately observes and assesses their progress to plan activities and experiences to support their next steps in learning. Children form close bonds and have very good relationships with the childminder. This helps to support children's emotional needs extremely well. Children behave well. For example, they learn to share and take turns as they take part in activities. The childminder is a good example for others and treats children and adults with respect and consideration. The childminder successfully informs parents about their children's learning. Parents comment that they are very happy with the service the childminder provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Information on children's progress is not routinely shared with other early years settings they attend to aid planning for their learning. The systems for gathering the views of parents to inform self-evaluation and identify areas for improvement are not fully effective.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children during activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands her role and responsibilities in protecting children. Risk assessments are robust and she has a good understanding of the procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child. The childminder is committed to continually improve the overall quality of her setting. She regularly reflects on her contribution to identifying areas for improvement. She shares good practice with other childminders and attends training. This has a positive impact on outcomes for children. For example, following training on sensory play, children were given additional resources for their play and learning experiences. The childminder closely monitors children's progress and regularly reflects on the effectiveness of the experiences she provides for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are given the time to explore and learn for themselves. For example, the childminder sits with children as they explore and investigate a range of sensory materials. The childminder encourages literacy skills at an early age. Children regularly visit the library and like to cosy up with the childminder while looking at picture books and reading stories. Children gain skills and enjoy learning through different activities based around their interests. They learn to count carefully as they enjoy construction play and number songs. Children effectively develop language and communication skills. The childminder listens to children carefully and introduces new words to extend their vocabulary when appropriate.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows the children in her care well. She gathers information from parents when children first start and provides information and activities to get parents involved in children's learning. Children develop independence at a young age. For example, they choose freely from a wide range of activities and experiences. They have many opportunities to enjoy outdoor-based exercise. They regularly visit the park and have regular opportunities to explore their natural environment at the local nature reserve. The childminder provides many activities and experiences for children to explore diverse beliefs and cultures. For instance, children visit local groups in the community and learn to respect the ideas and views of their friends. Children develop an awareness of healthy lifestyles such as understanding simple healthy eating and good hygiene routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and develop key skills well from a variety of experiences planned for them. They are motivated and keen to learn. This prepares children well for their future learning and school.
