Children make outstanding progress.  Children respond extremely positively to the childminder's tender, attentive and highly encouraging manner. They demonstrate very high levels of confidence and security.  The childminder works very closely and effectively with parents to ensure that she consistently meets children's needs extremely well.  Children's behaviour is excellent. They treat others with respect and high levels of interest.  The childminder assesses children's learning needs and progress very carefully. She uses her evaluation of these to plan highly effective teaching and learning.

p.1

 use every opportunity to build on children's excellent awareness of people's differences.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's activities in the setting and spoke to the childminder when it was appropriate to do so.  The inspector observed some daily care routines, including the provision of lunch and the changing of children's nappies.  The inspector sampled children's records, a range of policies and other documents.  The inspector toured areas of the premises used for childminding.  The inspector spoke to parents and looked at the record of parental views collected by the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder makes excellent use of her substantial knowledge to meet children's needs. She makes use of ideas that she receives through regular training and from communication with other early years providers, for example, to inform and improve her practice. The childminder has extremely high expectations and a vision for the future development of her practice. She pays great attention to detail to all aspects of her provision so that these remain consistently excellent. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is very alert to any changes in children's behaviour or well-being that might signal a possible concern about their welfare. Parents speak extremely highly of the quality of care and education that the childminder's leadership consistently ensures.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder devotes considerable attention to understanding children's needs and assessing their development. She plans her teaching with great care and identifies where children need most support and challenge very well. For example, the childminder enables young children to practise their balancing and develop confidence as they move independently. The childminder talks to children in a highly stimulating way that develops their knowledge, understanding and curiosity. She responds to children's interests and incorporates these into her activities very effectively. For example, the childminder included toy monkeys in a shape and colour activity because of children's interest in them. The childminder makes excellent use of learning opportunities during regular care routines, such as when changing nappies and sharing lunchtimes.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder provides children with an entirely safe, warm and inviting setting. She treats children with a great deal of kindness and emotional support. Children flourish in this environment and demonstrate much self-motivation, perseverance and independence. They behave very well and are relaxed and at ease. The childminder promotes healthy eating very well, for example, she communicates with parents about food choices and nutrition. She treats children with great gentleness and affection during regular care routines, such as nappy changes. The childminder teaches children to respect and value others, and is a very good role model in this regard. However, there are a few missed opportunities to build on and extend children's awareness about the range of people's differences.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children learn extremely well and concentrate for very long periods. They make outstanding progress and are extremely well prepared for the next stages of their learning.
