This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. The childminder observes and assesses children's learning and developmental needs well. She uses this information to identify their next steps and plan suitable learning experiences.  The childminder monitors and tracks children's progress effectively, which helps to quickly identify, address and close any gaps in children's learning.  The childminder completes regular risk assessments in order to maintain children's safety, which contributes to promoting children's welfare.  The childminder promote children's health and well-being effectively. For example, she provides children with nutritious snacks and teaches them about healthy foods.  Children enjoy playing with a broad range of activities and resources. They are motivated to learn and make good progress in their learning in relation to their starting points.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not explored ways to involve all parents consistently in their children's learning.  There are few opportunities for children to see and use their home language as they play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the systems for sharing and seeking information on children's progress with all parents so that they are fully involved in their children's learning and development  strengthen the opportunities children have to see and use words in their home language.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children during activities.  The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She is fully aware of the possible signs that would give cause for concern about a child's welfare. The childminder is committed to developing her practice to promote good outcomes for children. For example, she has completed training which has enabled her to meet children's social and emotional needs more fully. The childminder reviews and evaluates her practice well to drive improvement. She has met the recommendations from the last inspection. For instance, she has developed the literacy area to ensure children can independently access age-appropriate books. The childminder has good relationships with other early years settings that children attend; she regularly exchanges information with them to promote continuity of care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder promotes children's early reading and writing skills well. For example, she spends time reading books with children and provides many opportunities for them to draw and make marks. The childminder encourages children's understanding of mathematical concepts during their play. For instance, children learn to recognise numbers as they enjoy matching games and thoroughly enjoy singing number songs. Children are developing good language and communication skills. For example, they confidently communicate their needs and engage in conversations with the childminder. The childminder skilfully joins in with children's chosen play to motivate and engage them further. She provides resources to promote their creativity and imagination. For instance, children enjoy playing with the toy kitchen and building towers with construction toys.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment. Children confidently move around her home and choose their own play. They behave well. They form close friendships and play cooperatively from a young age. The childminder uses frequent praise and encouragement as she interacts with the children, to which they respond well. The childminder encourages children to think about their own personal safety; for instance, children have opportunities to use large apparatus at parks and learn about road safety awareness. The childminder effectively promotes a healthy lifestyle. For example, children have daily opportunities to enjoy fresh air and exercise in the garden. They explore the local community and have great fun digging and planting fruit and vegetables at the childminder's allotment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are confident and learn the necessary skills to help prepare them for school.
