snacks, drinks and nutritious food. Children have good opportunities to play outside. They enjoy learning about the local community.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records, regulatory documentation, suitability records, policies and procedures. The inspector read comments from parents and children, and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of how to keep children safe. She knows what signs to look out for and what to do if she has concerns about a child in her care. Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder uses a variety of strategies to encourage their participation in their children's learning and their feedback on her service. She asks parents to share information about their children's progress at home. This involves parents fully in helping the childminder to meet children's individual learning and care needs. The childminder has a good range of detailed policies and procedures that she implements consistently. She shares these with parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good teaching skills and a secure understanding of all requirements. She uses this knowledge to undertake detailed observations and assessments of children's development. This information helps her to identify any gaps in children's learning so that interventions are put in place to close these gaps swiftly. Children are active learners. They use their imaginations well. For example, in the playhouse they decide to become firefighters to extinguish pretend fires. Children develop a basic understanding of mathematics; they count readily during their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very happy and confident in the childminder's care. The childminder implements effective routines that support children's self-esteem and help them to feel safe and secure. Children benefit from regular physical exercise and fresh air. The childminder makes full use of her environments and nearby amenities. For example, children learn that rabbits like to eat carrots. The childminder acts as a positive role model to children and has clear expectations for their behaviour. She encourages children of different ages to share toys and to be kind to each other. Children enjoy making choices about their play and activities. More capable children attend to their personal needs independently.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well motived to learn. They make good progress in relation to their starting points and, overall, are well prepared for school. Children gain useful social skills. They enjoy stories and engage in conversations. They grow in independence, for example, when choosing their own toys and helping to prepare the table for lunch.
