This provision is good
The childminder carries out regular and precise assessments of each child's needs. She uses the accurate information gained from observations to plan challenging activities that are linked to the children's interests. Children's emotional well-being is effectively promoted as they play in a warm, homely and friendly environment. This supports children's independence and confidence. Children behave well and have very good manners. The childminder has clear routines in place and high expectations for good behaviour. This means that children understand rules and boundaries from an early age. Partnerships with parents and professionals from other settings that the children attend are strong. The childminder shares purposeful information about children's individual care needs, progress and next steps in learning, which helps to promote continuity.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder is too quick to intervene in children's play. This does not maximise opportunities for children to solve problems for themselves. The childminder has not yet fully established a highly focused system of reflection to maintain and improve the quality of the provision.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises, children's development records and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents recorded in letters.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder monitors children's progress to identify their next steps in learning and to ensure educational programmes provide a wide range of experiences. This supports children to be well prepared for the next stage in their learning and school. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is very knowledgeable about the potential signs of abuse and neglect. She uses her robust policies, procedures and risk assessments to identify risks and minimise hazards. This helps her to protect children from harm. The childminder attends training to update and refresh her knowledge and understanding. Parents report that they are extremely happy with the service the childminder provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good teaching skills and a secure knowledge of how children learn. She interacts with the children very well to effectively support the children's early language and speaking skills. For example, the childminder models how to pronounce words correctly and introduces new words to extend children's vocabulary. The children are enthusiastic and use their imagination well as they engage in role play. Children's mathematical skills are consistently enhanced as the childminder encourages them to count and identify different shapes routinely within their play. The childminder gathers information from parents about their children's abilities when they start. The information gained contributes to initial assessments of children's starting points and helps her to settle children quickly.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has developed a good relationship with the children in her care. She is happy, enthusiastic and caring. The strong attachments help to motivate the children and support their confidence and well-being. The stimulating, well-resourced environment helps to promote independence as the children access the resources themselves. The childminder provides children with regular trips to parks and play centres to help promote their physical skills and their understanding of how to manage risks. Children are given a wide range of experiences which promotes their understanding of people, families and communities. The childminder teaches children good hygiene routines. Children regularly wash their hands and can explain how they need to wash germs away. The childminder offers the children a wide range of healthy foods and snacks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are working within typical levels of development for their age in all areas of learning. Children develop an enjoyment of learning. This effectively supports them to be well equipped and emotionally prepared for the next stage in their learning and school.
