This provision is good

 The experienced and qualified childminder provides a good range of interesting activities across all areas of learning. Children are keen and motivated and they concentrate for extended periods of time. The development of these positive attitudes is good preparation for future learning at pre-school and school.  Children have positive relationships with the childminder. They are happy and settled in her care. The childminder supports children's independence skills well. The children are confident and have good self-esteem.  The childminder provides a safe, well-equipped home environment. It is carefully organised to make the best use of the space available for play.  The childminder strives to make continual improvements to benefit the children's care and learning. She actively seeks out information and training to enhance her knowledge and teaching practice.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always give children the time they need to process information and answer when she asks them questions. Sometimes, they do not have an opportunity to respond or to share their ideas.  Relationships with other settings children attend are not always developed quickly enough to share relevant information regarding children's learning needs.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 give children more time to respond to questions and to fully share their own ideas  build more quickly on relationships with other settings children attend and share relevant information about their care and learning as promptly as possible.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as written policies and evidence of the suitability of adult members of the household.  The inspector interacted with the childminder and children throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends safeguarding refresher courses to keep her knowledge updated. She knows how to identify and refer concerns regarding children's welfare and safety. The childminder uses a wide range of positive strategies to monitor and evaluate her provision for children. She has a childcare qualification and attends further training. She uses the knowledge gained to continue to improve the interesting range of experiences she provides to support children's learning. Successful communication with parents ensures that they are fully included in all aspects of their children's development and progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder successfully observes and assesses the children's progress and development. She uses this information well to plan and provide a range of resources and learning experiences that will interest them. She is skilled at enabling them to lead their own play and enhances activities to provide continuing challenge. Children have good pencil control and have many opportunities to make marks, draw and write. Pre-school aged children are beginning to recognise the letters in their name and to attempt to write them. Mathematical language is used constantly and children are encouraged to explore how things work. Children's language skills are developed well. They enjoy listening to stories.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder knows the children extremely well as she spends her time directly playing with and caring for them. She ensures that the children are emotionally confident, happy and settled. The childminder takes children to a wide variety of local groups. They experience a broad range of social situations and learn about the world around them. Children are encouraged to be polite and considerate to others. They look after the toys and think of other people's feelings. The children are aware of how to keep themselves and others safe. For example, they tidy away toys when they have finished with them so they do not pose a hazard to others. Snacks are nutritious and the children receive regular exercise and fresh air.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The children enjoy learning through well-planned play and learning experiences that capture their interest and motivate them to take part. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and development. They actively gain the skills they need to continue their good progress.
