This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides children with a homely, welcoming and stimulating learning environment. Children access a very good range of age-appropriate resources and make independent choices in their play. They are motivated and eager to explore.  Children are taught about safe practices effectively. For example, the childminder offers gentle reminders about the importance of sitting properly on chairs and encourages them to help pick up toys so they do not trip over.  The childminder and her assistant are calm and consistent when interacting with the children. This supports their positive behaviour. The staff encourage children to share, be polite and respectful to each other.  The childminder works well with her assistant. She monitors her performance, helping to ensure that children have access to good quality care and learning.  The childminder has established effective partnerships with the other settings children

attend. These help maintain good continuity in children's care and learning.  Children enjoy visits to the library and regularly attend local groups with the childminder. They meet other children from the local community.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not utilise her strong partnerships with parents to consistently gather as much information as possible about children's learning at home in order to enhance the good progress children are making.  The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to fully extend younger children's creative experiences.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 gather further information from parents about children's learning and achievements at home to complement teaching and support children in making rapid progress  extend opportunities to stimulate younger children's interest and engagement in creative experiences.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector talked to the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection and carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector reviewed relevant documentation, including the childminder's self- evaluation document, children's learning journals and a sample of policies and procedures.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and evidence of the suitability of all adult household members.  The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading their written feedback and speaking to a parent during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure understanding of the action they need to take if they have concerns about a child's welfare. The environment is safe and potential risks to children in the home and on outings are minimised. The childminder reflects upon her practice and is committed to improving the provision. For example, she has addressed the recommendations raised at her last inspection positively and has made changes to the environment to enhance children's good learning. The childminder and her assistant are keen to continue their professional development. For example, they make good use of training events and complete their own research to keep up to date with new legislation and good practice guidance. This has a positive impact on the quality of teaching and outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-qualified childminder has a clear understanding of how children learn through play and is enthusiastic and motivating in her interactions with children. Observations and assessments are undertaken to ensure children's progress is monitored and any gaps in their development are identified. Activities are planned based on children's interests and the next steps for their learning. For example, older children thoroughly enjoy playing with the train track. The childminder skilfully encourages them to join the pieces together, introducing new mathematical language as they play. She helps children to develop their communication and language. For example, she talks to them, repeating phrases and extending sentences to develop their speech. Children are enthusiastic singers, with even the youngest children joining in with the actions to favourite songs. Partnerships with parents are very positive. The childminder keeps them regularly updated with the activities

their children engage in and the progress they make in their learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder and her assistant form close bonds with children in their care. They are warm and affectionate towards them and give them their full attention. This helps children to feel emotionally secure, develop confidence and self-assurance. The childminder ensures that settling-in arrangements are flexible to meet children's individual needs. For example, she visits children in their own homes so they get to know her in a familiar environment and supports them exceptionally well during times of change. The childminder teaches children good hygiene routines. Children regularly wash their hands and can explain how they need to wash any germs away. The childminder offers a range of healthy foods. For example, children enjoy choosing and chopping up their own fruit and talk about how healthy foods make them strong. Children enjoy a wealth of outdoor activities. This benefits their health and physical development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their individual starting points and acquire the necessary skills for school. They are very sociable and build early friendships as they play alongside each other, learning to share and take turns.
