Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching and the impact this had on children's learning during snack time and free chosen play activities. The inspector had discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection about her practice and about the children's learning and development. The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records, policies and procedures. The inspector read comments from the parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a full and thorough understanding of child protection and how to keep children safe. She is confident and very clear about the procedure to follow in reporting concerns about the welfare of a child. The impact of the childminder's vast amount of training is evident in her outstanding practice. She uses her skills effectively in her teaching and learning experiences for the children. The childminder works exceptionally well with other professionals. Parents highly regard the childminder. For example, they express their thanks when she supports them to put strategies in place for their children's behaviour, which have an excellent outcome.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Teaching is outstanding. The childminder completes detailed, thorough and perceptive observations of children as they play. She uses these to assess their learning and expertly identifies and addresses any gaps in their achievement. The childminder is very skilled at planning activities to specifically promote the next steps in children's learning. For example, she planned a fun snack time activity for all children that included focus on shape, colour and number to reflect the learning goal for one child. The childminder supports language and communication extremely well. For example, she includes all children fully during story time, and makes excellent use of pictures, questioning and rhyming. Children use their exploratory skills through activities such as making dens out of blankets and cushions. During the inspection, children were proud when their dens were built and collected favourite toys and hid under blankets.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder demonstrates an excellent understanding of how to meet individual needs of all children. She is warm and nurturing. Toddlers trust her implicitly and quickly develop the confidence to explore the different activities. The learning environment is stimulating and well resourced throughout, and children eagerly explore the space available. However, there are more opportunities for them to express themselves creatively indoors than outside. The childminder places the highest priority on supporting children's emotional and physical well-being and ensures they form secure attachments. Children's behaviour is excellent. They apply their understanding of house rules extremely well and follow the routine of the day. They learn to share resources and take turns.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
The childminder's high-quality practice enables all children to make excellent progress. They are working at least at the expected levels of development across all areas of learning and in some areas they are exceeding. The children are motivated learners and are eager to join in with activities.
