This provision is good

 The childminder is a good teacher who provides children with opportunities to play with suitable resources that engage and interest them. Children learn to concentrate and persevere.  The childminder creates a warm and welcoming environment where children are confident, happy, have lots of fun and thoroughly enjoy themselves.  Children are happy and settled with the childminder and form close bonds with her. This helps to support their personal, social and emotional development and they feel safe and secure in her care.  The childminder has built good relationships with parents. She effectively shares information about children's progress in their learning and development. This helps parents and the childminder to work together to enhance children's learning and development.  The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and carefully considers how she can continually improve outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children are not always able to learn about different foods and where they come from.  On occasions, there are missed opportunities to encourage children's physical development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop children's understanding about different foods and where they come from  consider ways of encouraging children's physical development when the weather is bad.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children indoors and outdoors.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled documentation, including policies, qualification certificates and children's learning records.  The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through their written comments left for the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The experienced childminder has a good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements and continually keeps updated with any changes. She is proactive and enthusiastic in updating and extending her professional knowledge, skills and understanding through research, training and sharing ideas with other childminders; for example, by updating policies and introducing more sensory resources because of recent training. The childminder regularly reviews children's progress with parents to ensure there are no gaps in their development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of child protection practice, which enables her to promote children's well-being and keep them safe from harm.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows children well and she follows their individual interests to plan appropriate learning experiences. She uses her experience and knowledge to help children learn. She carries out regular observations of children and successfully plans experiences to close any gaps in their learning. She keeps a close check on the progress children are making and shares this information with parents to involve them in their children's learning. The childminder focuses well on promoting children's language and communication abilities. They develop their listening skills as they play sound games, for example. She encourages children to think by asking simple questions, and children learn to solve problems independently. Children are developing their early mathematical skills. They are encouraged to count during their play and they talk about cars going fast and slow. Children are developing good social skills and learn to take turns and share.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a very good role model for children. Behaviour is consistently good and children are frequently praised and encouraged throughout activities. The childminder is warm, caring and affectionate. This, and her effective settling-in process, helps children to develop strong attachments to her. The childminder provides a wide selection of resources that she carefully organises so that children are able to make independent choices in play. She promotes the health and well-being of children by, for example, providing healthy and nutritious snacks. Children enjoy many outings in the local community. The childminder helps children to develop their understanding of nature and the wider world. In addition, they have opportunities to practise their developing social skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder effectively supports children to make good progress in their learning and development from their starting points. The childminder is a good teacher who helps children to acquire the key skills required for their next stage in learning.
