Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder manages her setting well. She implements robust policies and procedures to promote children's safety and well-being. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibility in ensuring that she provides children with a safe and secure environment. She is aware of the procedures to follow if she had a concern about a child. She regularly reflects on the quality of her practice to identify her strengths and areas for development, which provides her with a clear overview of her setting. The childminder implements effective systems to review children's learning. She uses these well to monitor closely their ongoing progress and to highlight future learning needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children play and learn; and plans an interesting range of activities that they enjoy. She interacts well with children as they engage in activities, and she skilfully challenges their speaking and thinking skills, for example, by asking probing questions. She further supports children's communication skills, such as by reading stories, introducing words and singing. Children are making significant progress, including those who are learning English as an additional language. The childminder promotes children's mathematical skills well and introduces mathematical language as children play. For example, while children build a tower, she encourages them to count, look at the colours and talks about size.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are well cared for in a nurturing and warm environment. The childminder promotes their good health well. For instance, children enjoy healthy meals and snacks, and they are developing skills to manage their own care needs. Children demonstrate good levels of independence and learn to take charge of some small tasks. For example, older children spread the butter and carefully slice the bread while making their own sandwiches for lunch. They confidently move around the environment and make free choices from the available resources. Children who attend the setting come from various backgrounds. The childminder supports all children in learning about themselves and in developing their awareness of others. Children behave well, and the childminder encourages them to respect and consider the needs of others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Overall, children make good progress in their learning and development. They are gaining the necessary skills to support them in preparation for the next stages in their learning, including starting school.
