This provision is good

 The childminder has a good knowledge of the children's individual needs. She uses this information and their interests to help in her planning of challenging and stimulating activities for them to enjoy and learn from.  The childminder is very organised and keeps all the required and relevant records and documents up to date. This helps her to track children's development and take account of their ever-changing needs.  The childminder forms secure partnerships with local early years settings and schools that children attend. This helps her to meet the children's care and learning needs well.  The childminder ensures she attends regular childcare related training. This helps to keep her in touch with current practices.  Children's behaviour is good and they understand the need to listen to the childminder and follow instructions if asked. The childminder also listens to the children and this helps her to deal appropriately with situations as they arise.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide the opportunities and resources for children to be able to extend their play even further and to use their imaginative skills more.  The childminder does not always consider how to provide more play opportunities for children who prefer to learn outside to further extend their good learning and development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on the opportunities for children to be able to extend their play  strengthen play and learning opportunities further for those who learn best outdoors.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector toured the areas children use and observed them playing.  The inspector carried out a joint observation of an activity with the childminder and discussed children's development.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder undertakes regular risk assessments to help ensure the environments children use are free from hazards. She is also knowledgeable about what she would do if she had any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder tracks children's progress by observing them in their play and daily activities. This helps her to effectively identify any gaps in their learning and address these quickly. The childminder shares this information with parents, who are encouraged to comment. She reflects on her practice and the impact on children's care and learning. She obtains the views of parents and children to help her successfully self-evaluate her provision and maintain good standards. The childminder has made some improvements since her last inspection. For example, recent training has increased her knowledge of current practices and this has a good impact on the effectiveness of her provision.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides children with routine and structure, which helps them know what is happening next. She listens to the children and gives them ideas for them to choose from, such as creating a space collage using shapes children have prepared. She also ensures there is plenty of time for free play where children can choose from toys and resources the childminder makes available. For instance, children of all ages enjoy moulding dough and create a caf environment where they take and write down orders, and make food to serve. Children practise their writing skills during their play. The childminder gives great emphasis to developing their communication and literacy skills. Younger children love books and the childminder is always ready to read with them. Children's social skills are also given good attention as they attend local toddler groups, for example.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a safe, clean and welcoming home for children. They settle in well and show they are happy with the childminder. She works closely with parents to maintain children's well-being, and parents provide healthy foods for their children to eat when with the childminder. She teaches children how to share and help each other. This helps children learn to respect others and, overall, older and younger children play well together.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their development. They learn early writing, reading and mathematical skills, which help them as they move on to the next stage in their lives.
