This provision is good
The childminder establishes strong relationships with staff in the other settings that children attend. She works in partnership with them and children's parents to provide children with continuity in their development and care. The childminder uses effective assessment systems to monitor the progress children make and to identify their developmental needs. She shares this information with parents well so that they can continue their children's learning at home. Children enjoy stories. They also choose to participate in activities which help them to develop their early writing and mathematical skills. The childminder prepares them well for future learning. The childminder provides healthy experiences for children so that they develop positive attitudes to healthy foods, and enjoying regular fresh air and exercise. The childminder evaluates her practice and the progress of all children well to raise her

standards and improve outcomes for children. The childminder promotes positive behaviour effectively. She frequently reinforces the development of children's social skills in her interactions with the children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make effective use of questioning techniques to encourage children to develop their own ideas and extend their learning. The childminder does not offer children consistent opportunities to find out about how people live in the wider world to help them learn about diversity.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and discussed how the childminder provides children with opportunities for outdoor play. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and her planning documentation. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and her suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has strict procedures in place to protect children from harm. She ensures parents are aware of her responsibility to safeguard children and knows what to do in the event of a concern about a child's well-being. The childminder follows robust risk assessments to ensure children are safe in her home. The childminder keeps up to date with legislation and actively enhances her knowledge in order to develop her practice. For example, by attending courses, she has improved her knowledge of how to use the internet safely with children. She also carries out a lot of research which helps her to improve children's play and learning experiences. The childminder takes account of children's views to improve her provision. For example, she has adapted menus to include the foods they request. Children learn that their opinions matter.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy learning. They show enthusiasm and are inquisitive when the childminder brings out resources. The childminder gives children freedom to explore and make discoveries. For example, children bang household objects with sticks and find out the noises they make. Children meet challenges in their play and display pride in their achievements. For example, when they catch a magnetic fish on their rod, they wave it proudly and confidently in the air. The childminder understands what the children enjoy because she gathers information about the children, including talking to their parents. She effectively plans activities that appeal to the interests of individual children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder maintains a happy environment in which she laughs and chats with the children. Children show they feel secure in the childminder's care and they seek her cuddles when they want comforting. The childminder promotes kind and caring behaviour and children are included in helping elderly people in the community. Children understand that kindness brings happiness to others. The childminder follows positive strategies to teach children to share toys and take turns. Children become confident as they grow in independence. The childminder works with parents to encourage children to manage their own needs whenever possible. For example, children learn to put their shoes on themselves. The childminder ensures children have the essential skills needed for when they move to larger settings. The childminder pays high regard to children's feelings when they move to other settings and follows sensitive procedures to prepare them accordingly.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children progress well. Children who are learning English as an additional language make progress with their language and communication skills. They learn to communicate in English and make good progress in the other areas of learning ready for school.
