This provision is good
Children have confident language skills. They gain an increasing awareness of letter shapes and sounds to promote their literacy development. The childminder uses different ways to engage children in conversations as they play. Children learn the sound of new words and their range of vocabulary widens. They understand how language is used in different ways. The childminder is vigilant about safety and takes appropriate action to minimise risks. Children become increasingly aware of safety measures, such as how to keep themselves safe as they play. Children are very polite, behave well, and form good relationships with the childminder and their friends. The childminder has clear and consistent expectations regarding behaviour. This helps children understand boundaries and feel safe and secure. Children enjoy the many choices in what they play and they become independent learners. The childminder provides a wide range of toys and resources that children

enjoy using and can choose easily for themselves.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Space and resources are not always used to their full potential to extend children's learning experiences. Information about children's learning is not always shared enough between other early years settings they attend, to help support their developing needs.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

ensure that space and resources are used effectively to extend children's learning opportunities extend links with other settings children attend to ensure their learning is promoted consistently well.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a sample of other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector took account of written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a confident awareness of requirements. She reflects on her practice and increases her skills through training. She gains skills that help her to support children's individual needs well. She monitors children's learning closely and completes regular assessments of their progress. The childminder plans and generally provides a good range of activities so that all children make good progress. The childminder works closely with parents particularly, to provide consistent support for children's learning and development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the procedures to follow in the event of a child protection concern. She ensures her assistants understand their roles and responsibilities well and have training where necessary to support children's needs; for example, by attending first-aid training. This helps her to keep children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are motivated and have fun as they learn. Activities are interesting and reflect children's learning needs well. The childminder ensures children's play is purposeful, and promotes their speaking skills well. For example, she introduces them to new vocabulary as they help to make the train track, encouraging them to use positional and directional language. During daily routines, she frequently provides children with counting activities and objects to compare sizes and shapes. The indoor play space is well organised and the childminder uses an effective system so that children can choose freely from a wide range of toys. The children identify toys that they can use independently and those that they may need help to use. Children also know how to keep safe.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well and are relaxed with the childminder. They feel safe and secure and their self-esteem is promoted well. The childminder gently reminds children of expectations and offers lots of praise and encouragement as they play. Children gain a respectful awareness of diversity through their activities. They develop good social skills. They attend group activities with the childminder, learning how to play alongside other children, to share and take turns. The childminder provides them with healthy snacks and meals, sometimes introducing children to more unusual items to increase their awareness of healthy eating. Children visit parks and play areas to engage in physical activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and keen to learn. They are increasingly independent, developing language, number and social skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning, such as school.
