This provision is good

 The childminder has good teaching skills. She understands how children learn and plans a good range of interesting and exciting activities. Resources are easily available and the childminder uses these well to promote children's all-round development.  The childminder maintains a safe and welcoming environment. She makes sure children are not exposed to hazards inside or when playing in the garden. She helps children to enjoy different challenges while promoting their awareness of safety as they play.  The childminder keeps records, policies and procedures to help her organise her service. She is reflective and seeks the views of parents to further improve her good practice.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently help children to learn about the position of objects as part of promoting their mathematical development.  The childminder does not consistently encourage children to think and solve problems for themselves so that they have a better understanding of how things work.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop further opportunities for children to explore the position of objects, to strengthen their mathematical skills  create more opportunities for children to think and solve problems, to deepen their understanding of how things work.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children playing and learning during the inspection.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including developmental records, key policies and procedures, training certificates and the childminder's self-evaluation.  The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the findings with her.  The inspector took account of parents' views through their emails.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder effectively evaluates the quality of her service and children's progress to improve her practice and children's experiences. She accurately monitors children's development and shares information with parents and others who are involved in children's learning. The childminder reads information and attends training as part of keeping herself up to date and improving her knowledge. Training on making observations of children's learning have been particularly beneficial in improving the childminder's good teaching practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training and is alert to issues which may affect children's safety and feelings of well-being. The childminder makes sure adults who live or regularly come into contact with children are suitable.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is an enthusiastic teacher who promotes children's interest in learning well. She links activities together, such as reading stories and engaging children in imaginative play, as part of extending their learning. The childminder encourages children to explore different smells, tastes and textures to broaden their experiences. Her questioning skills are good and she introduces lots of new words to children, to help increase their communication and language abilities. The childminder encourages children to grasp and pick up small and large objects, to help strengthen their hand and finger movements. Overall, the childminder plans well for children's continued progress across the different areas of learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works with parents to ensure children feel emotionally secure. She provides affection, and offers encouragement and praise to help them feel special. The childminder is effective at promoting children's awareness of right from wrong. She supports them well as they learn how to play with others, and to respect their choices and differences. The childminder helps children as they learn to take care of their own needs. For example, she encourages them as they manage to put on difficult pieces of clothing, such as their coats. The childminder helps children to make healthy choices in the foods they eat. She encourages them to be physically active and children enjoy walks in the park and taking part in a range of physically challenging activities. The childminder makes the most of her environment and resources to promote children's learning and development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are keen learners who are making good progress. They are emotionally secure, which helps to ensure their readiness for school and future learning.
