This provision is good
The childminder is very warm and caring and she provides an extremely relaxed and welcoming environment. Children settle well and build very strong and secure relationships with her. The childminder has a range of clear policies and procedures in place to promote children's learning, safety and well-being. This helps parents to gain a clear understanding of her role and responsibilities, and supports positive partnerships. Children learn about the world around them, other cultures and languages through a variety of experiences, including dual language books and planned learning opportunities. The childminder establishes effective links with other settings children attend to share development information for individual children. This helps to promote consistency for care and learning and enables them to make good developmental progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always allow children enough time to gather their thoughts to answer a question she asks them. This does not strengthen their thinking and language skills further. The childminder does not always make full use of the settling-in times to gain more information about children's learning and development to further support children when they first start.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector had discussions with the childminder about her self-evaluation and improvement plans. The inspector checked evidence of suitability and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector observed activities in the playroom and the outside learning environment. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and planning. The inspector took a tour of the indoor and outdoor environments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibility to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has robust procedures in place should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder provides a safe environment in a variety of ways, including daily assessments to minimise risks. Children learn how to keep themselves safe from hazards in a range of experiences. For example, they help the childminder to lay soft mats on the pathway outside so that they can use the slide in a safe way. The childminder continually assesses her own development and strives to improve her practice. For instance, she accesses regular training courses to update her knowledge and has effectively addressed the recommendations raised in the last inspection.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a clear understanding of how children learn and develop through play. She uses skilful teaching methods to ensure all children make good progress in their learning. She uses information gained from routine observations of children to help plan their individual next steps. The childminder carries out regular progress reports on the children to identify and address any gaps in their learning. She continually shares ongoing information with parents about their children's learning and development. Parents have many opportunities to contribute to their children's ongoing learning, including through termly summary reports. Children gain a good awareness of how to look after themselves, for example, putting their own shoes and coats on and feeding themselves.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder supports children's well-being extremely well. For example, children eat nutritious meals and have an excellent range of opportunities for outdoor play. Children thoroughly enjoy exploring the highly stimulating environment. The childminder seizes every opportunity during children's outdoor play to strengthen their physical and mathematical skills. For example, as they climb the slide she encourages even the young children to count the steps one at a time. The childminder has an excellent understanding of how to support children in managing their behaviour. For example, she encourages them to negotiate in their play and to manage their feelings. She also works closely with parents to provide consistency for children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children meet and sometimes exceed their expected levels of achievement. They develop effective skills that help support them in preparation for the next stage in their learning.
