This provision is good
Children choose from a wide range of interesting and good quality resources. This encourages them to extend their interests and create new ones. The childminder provides consistent boundaries that successfully encourage children to behave well and develop good manners. Children enjoy experiences that increase their awareness and understanding of each other, and their differences and similarities. The childminder forms secure relationships with children. Children develop the confidence to learn and progress well. The childminder effectively monitors her practices and children's learning and development, to ensure she identifies and supports any gaps in their learning. Effective partnerships with parents result in both parties working well together to promote consistency in children's learning and development. Parents share what they know about their children's progress and the childminder explains activities they can do
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are few opportunities for children to practise their early writing skills. Occasionally, some organised group activities do not always fully involve and engage the younger children, and they quickly lose interest.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing with toys and engaged in activities organised by the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and some of the children during the inspection. The inspector toured parts of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and the safeguarding policy.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands her responsibilities and meets the requirements well. She uses effective systems to monitor her processes, and sets targets for her own personal develop and her setting, such as improving children's learning outdoors. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date. She attends a wide variety of training courses. This has led to her exploring how to increase children's understanding of science. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder attends regular training to keep her knowledge fresh. She identifies signs and symptoms that may indicate children's welfare is at risk and knows what to do if she has concerns. She has an effective safeguarding procedure in place, with the telephone numbers of relevant professionals. The childminder is aware of new legislation that helps her to protect children from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder prepares activities for children that engage them immediately. Children enjoy and busily explore equipment and resources to their fullest. The standard of teaching is strong. The childminder uses opportunities during children's play to extend their learning. For example, as children wiggle their toes, she encourages them to compare the sizes of their feet, building their mathematical understanding. They develop their hand-to-eye coordination during craft and messy activities, to spread glue onto paper. The childminder extends children's language skills well by using different words relevant to the activity. She knows the children well and builds on their interests to promote literacy skills. Children listen to stories and learn that print carries meaning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel secure and settle well with the childminder. The childminder encourages children's achievements and regularly praises their efforts. This helps children to form positive attitudes to learning and motivation to succeed. Children develop a sense of how to keep themselves healthy. They understand why they wash hands before eating and after messy activities. Children learn to turn on taps and use soap with increasing independence. Children visit local groups where they enjoy socialising with other children their own age. The childminder builds on these skills by arranging play visits to other childminder's homes. Children play in safe spaces. The childminder conducts annual risk assessments of her home and the places they visit. She completes visual checks daily of her home, further ensuring hazards are minimal.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Their sense of achievement and positive attitude to learning help them to build skills that prepare them well for their move on to school.
