This provision is good
The childminder makes effective use of the information she gathers from parents to inform her assessments of the progress children make. This helps her to form a full picture of children's development and of their individual needs. The childminder works in partnership with parents to help to ensure children benefit from continuity in care. Children develop a good understanding of developing positive attitudes towards being healthy. For example, they enjoy healthy foods, exercise and fresh air. Children demonstrate an enjoyment of books. For example, they like listening to and commenting on the stories they ask the childminder to read them. Children also demonstrate an enthusiasm for numbers as they count frequently in their play. This helps to lay good foundations for future learning. The childminder pays regard to government legislation. For example, she has changed her practice to ensure records remain confidential following her previous inspection.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide resources which allow the children to develop their own thoughts and lead the direction of their own play. Children are not able to access resources that enable them to bring early writing into their free play to help them consider the different purposes of writing.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and discussed how the childminder provides children with opportunities for outdoor play. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and the planning documentation. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and her suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has thorough procedures in place to inform parents of her responsibility to safeguard children. She refreshes her knowledge of how to keep children safe and amends policies in line with changes in government legislation. The childminder actively evaluates her practice to improve the outcomes for children. For example, she judges the success of activities from her observations on how children have enjoyed them. She repeats positive activities in order to reinforce and extend learning. The childminder updates her knowledge though a variety of methods. She uses information she has gained to strengthen her provision. For example, she has discovered additional methods to encourage parents to share information about children's achievements at home and is introducing them to add to her assessments.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses effective teaching skills. She adapts activities carefully to meet the differing needs of the children present. For example, when children pick up fruit for snack using tweezers she offers younger children larger tongs to meet their physical abilities. The childminder sets children effective challenges. They develop self-assurance when they succeed and she follows strategies to make them feel proud of their achievements. The childminder uses questions well to extend children's learning. For example, when children pretend to cook dinner she asks them what they will do next and they consider the process of cooking food, thus thinking in greater depth about their actions. Children learn about differences in lifestyles as, for instance, the childminder invites them to share aspects of their own lives and cultures with their friends.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel safe and secure with the childminder. For example, they happily say goodbye to their parents and remain content throughout the day. Children communicate confidently with the childminder who knows them well and understands their needs. The children show confidence in the environment as they happily engage in play. The childminder successfully promotes positive behaviour. Children of differing ages interact well together and tolerate each other's behaviour because they know the childminder will help to provide a solution to any problems that occur. The childminder follows strategies to make children feel confident about their move on to different settings. For example, when children are moving on to school, they read books about the experience.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children progress well. Where children achieve below the expected level, the childminder effectively targets the weaker areas. This helps children make swift progress in these areas and the gaps in development close quickly.
