Inspection activities
The inspector toured the areas used for childminding and spoke to the childminder, co- childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed practice and interaction between the childminder, co- childminder and children during play and daily care routines. She carried out observations with the childminder and discussed the teaching and learning. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including the childminder's self- evaluation, qualifications, policies and procedures. She also looked at the children's learning and assessment records. The inspector looked at all suitability checks for the adults living and working on the premises. The inspector took account of the views of parents from information detailed in questionnaires.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is wholly passionate about the children and the role she plays in their lives. The childminder is very aware of her role and responsibilities with regards to meeting legal requirements and protecting children in her care. She fully understands the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and knows when and from whom to seek advice. Parents state that the childminder is extremely attentive to their children's individual needs and report that they have made considerable progress since attending. The childminder works in partnership with parents to identify and address children's learning needs. However, she recognises the need to find innovative ways to encourage parents to contribute more regularly to their children's assessments. Self-evaluation is used exceptionally well. The childminder identifies and acts on areas for improvement to enhance her first-class practice further.

Young children thoroughly enjoy exploring the autumn changes in the garden. They talk enthusiastically about the pears they have picked and happily collect leaves to make collages. They are excited as they stomp on the leaves and talk about the crunching sounds they make under their feet. Children enthusiastically explore the contents of the treasure basket. They listen to the sounds of the sea in shells, smell the scent of oranges and dance with delight as the childminder sways the bright coloured ribbons in the air. The childminder uses her
