This provision is good
Teaching is good. The childminder understands how to effectively promote children's learning to enable them to achieve well. She ensures that she obtains pertinent information about each child, including what they already know and can do. The childminder promotes children's independence and self-help skills during routine times of the day. For example, children put on their own coats and shoes and help to tidy away toys. This also helps to develop children's social skills for the future. The childminder interacts very well with children and extends their vocabulary by adding new words as they play. She makes learning fun and gives children time to develop their own ideas. This helps them to be self-motivated and eager to learn. Children are provided with a wide range of good quality resources and they eagerly make clear choices about their play. They are confident and have high levels of self-

esteem. The childminder develops close and effective relationships with parents. They speak highly of the service she provides and say that their children have benefitted greatly since coming to the childminder's setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to exchange information about children's learning with the other settings they attend. The childminder does not focus precisely enough on evaluating her practice and identifying areas for improvement to extend and challenge children's learning further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance the two-way communication with other settings that children attend, in order to share more detailed information about their achievements focus more on the quality of teaching when evaluating practice, in order to identify and prioritise what needs to be done to continually improve.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's development records, evidence of suitability of those living on the premises, and the childminder's qualifications and training records. The inspector went on a walk to nursery with the childminder. The inspector took account of parents' views provided in references and questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is well organised. She has a secure understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Since registration she has kept up to date with required training and researches current good practice. She meets regularly with other registered childminders to exchange ideas and discuss new regulations. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has concerns. She evaluates her practice and seeks the views of parents and children. However, this is not yet sufficiently targeted to further enhance the quality of her teaching and to extend the challenges for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder interacts positively with children to support their learning. She has a good awareness of how to effectively use children's interests to support their learning, such as when they express their curiosity about a well-known monument. This creates opportunities for lots of discussions, research and model making related to the topic. The childminder ensures that activities are adapted so that all children enjoy taking part. She creates many opportunities to teach children during their play and routines. Children enjoy discussing the activities that they have planned together and they eagerly sing songs associated with their activities. This helps children to recall previous discussions and also supports their language skills. The childminder closely checks children's progress and plans effectively for their future learning. She keeps parents well informed about this so that they can support their children's development at home. However, the partnerships

with other providers are not yet as effective in sharing similar information to build on children's good progress more consistently.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a home-from-home environment with a friendly atmosphere. Children are settled and secure. They enjoy loving and affectionate relationships with the attentive childminder. Children are happy because they are supported well during their day. They receive clear guidance about expected behaviour and they are helped to show respect for each other and for the environment. Children know about washing their hands before eating, and meals are eaten at the family table, developing their social skills. They have plenty of opportunities for fresh air and exercise. Children enjoy walks in nearby woodland, playing in the childminder's garden or visiting local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder continually talks to children and skilfully asks them questions to extend their thinking skills. Creative activities are used well to help develop children's imagination and coordination skills as they learn to use scissors and develop pencil control. This aids their readiness for the next stage in their learning, such as starting school or nursery.
