This provision is good
The childminder plans a good range of activities to support children's learning. She ensures that she varies the activities so that she consistently helps children to be secure in their knowledge and skills. The childminder works well with parents, carers and external agencies to secure appropriate early intervention. This means that all children receive the support they need to move forward in their learning. The childminder gives good attention to supporting children as they move on to other settings. She identifies any anxieties they may have and gives specific support, providing additional activities where necessary. This effectively promotes children's emotional well-being. The childminder has undertaken a number of training courses about safeguarding children since the last inspection. As a result, she has a confident knowledge of possible signs of abuse and how she would deal with any concerns.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder thoroughly evaluates the knowledge she gains on training to clearly identify how this can improve her practice. For example, she now encourages children to decide the rules of their pretend play and share them with others. This helps to minimise any frustrations or disruptions as the game continues.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not fully support children's speaking skills, particularly with regards to modelling language during child-initiated play. The childminder does not always organise her resources well during child-initiated play, so that children can move about freely and maintain their attention.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed the planning of activities with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of training.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a recognised early years qualification and is committed to developing her knowledge through regular training. She continually checks the progress children make and is quick to take action if children are not making the expected progress. The childminder is thorough in her approach to implementing the safeguarding and welfare requirements and evaluating her own practice. She sets herself a number of areas for improvement to develop her practice further. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. For example, the childminder is constantly risk assessing the environment and changing her practice accordingly. The childminder is proactive in establishing communication with other settings that children attend, so that she can complement children's learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder carefully plans adult-led activities, giving good consideration to the range of resources and what children will learn. Children engage well with these activities. For example, they develop their investigation skills as they fill containers and persevere putting the lids on. They explore the textures of different cereals and make marks in dough. The childminder consistently reinforces learning, such as counting, to support children to make progress. She introduces new vocabulary, encouraging children to repeat words. Partnerships with parents and carers are strong. The childminder constantly shares information with them to support children's needs and their learning. She carefully considers the best way to effectively support parents and carers to make contributions to their child's learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is sensitive to children's needs and helps them to settle and feel comfortable. She is quick to give them reassurance if needed. Therefore, children develop good relationships with the childminder. The childminder is very effective in managing children's behaviour. She uses very clear and simple reminders to address inappropriate behaviour. She gives specific praise so that children know when they are meeting her expectations. The childminder plans activities to talk about healthy eating, contributing to children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle. She provides lots of outings within the local community to support children's social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder plans appropriate support for children's individual needs. There is a clear focus on closing any gaps in children's learning. The childminder is very clear on how she uses the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years to identify and address any concerns about children's learning. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning.
