This provision is good
The childminder supports children's social and emotional needs very well. She is caring, sensitive and attentive to children's individual needs. This helps children to be happy, and to feel secure and confident in her care. Children gain a wonderful sense of safety and learn to manage risks, through real-life and hands-on experiences. The childminder takes children on regular outings into the wider community and to explore the local area. Children find out about the natural world, and enjoy exploring and investigating during visits to parks and other attractions. The childminder shares information about children's progress regularly with parents to help promote a consistent approach to children's learning and development. The childminder is well qualified. She updates her skills and knowledge regularly through various training and other research methods. This positively impacts on the quality of teaching children receive.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to explore independently, using all of their senses.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunities for children to be able to independently explore using all of their senses.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documentation including policies, evidence of the suitability of household members, observation and assessment documentation and the safeguarding procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents and carers as provided in documentation and through discussion.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to protect children and keep them safe from harm. She has attended relevant training and has a clear understanding of the possible indicators of abuse. The childminder uses the knowledge she has gained from completing a childcare qualification to provide good quality care and learning. She continues to make improvements that benefit children's welfare. The childminder regularly monitors the educational programmes. This helps her to be able to identify and address any gaps in children's learning quickly and provide appropriate support. Partnerships with parents are very good. The childminder makes good use of written observations and conversations to keep parents informed of their children's learning and care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a well-balanced range of activities that hold the interest of all children. This helps children to make progress from their starting points on entry. The childminder is successful at involving parents in their children's learning. Children concentrate well, such as during play with shape sorters. For example, they use excellent hand-to-eye coordination and are beginning to learn about shape, space and colour. Children's language is developing very well. The childminder uses good questioning techniques. She waits for children to answer and supports their growing vocabulary by reading stories and singing rhymes. Young children take part in adult-led activities where they can explore different textures and materials. They use their senses to investigate sound, shape and size. However, the childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to explore using their senses in their own way and at their own pace.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder attends to children's emotional and care needs very well. The childminder builds up their confidence by giving plenty of reassuring cuddles and by gently encouraging them to play. The childminder has a calm, positive manner and is a good role model. The childminder sensitively encourages young children to share and take turns. Children are supported to be independent in their personal care and to develop good hygiene routines. Children learn about making healthy choices and take part in exercise daily. The childminder provides valuable opportunities for children to continue their learning during visits to the local area. Children learn about the natural world and the wider, diverse community. This helps children to be curious and interested in the world around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are progressing well in their learning and they are acquiring the essential skills they need for future learning. They are very motivated and have a positive attitude towards their learning. This helps to prepare children well for the next stage in their learning including when they move to pre-school or school.
