The parents share information about children's development when they first start, which the childminder uses to identify children's starting points for learning.  Outcomes for children are good and children make effective progress towards the early learning goals and starting school.  The childminder has a clear overview of individual children's stages of development. She plans carefully to provide a good range of learning experiences that clearly promote children's next steps in learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder sometimes interrupts children's play, so does not always give children time to explore and develop at their own pace.  The childminder does not consistently model the correct language for children. This slightly reduces opportunities to develop their communication skills at such times.

She constantly finds ways to improve outcomes for children through rigorously engaging the views of parents and children. This helps her to evaluate her provision and children's progress effectively, and highlight areas for improvement. The childminder routinely monitors children's progress and shares their achievements with all who are involved in their learning. The childminder is vigilant and knows the referral procedure to follow should she have any safeguarding concerns. She supports children to become aware of dangers when using the internet and how to manage risk. Safeguarding is effective.

She teaches well, and provides activities and resources that are appropriate for children's ages and stages of development. She uses her very good range of resources to help ignite children's interests and their eagerness to explore with increased imagination and independence. She skilfully questions children to challenge them. At the inspection, the childminder encouraged children to recognise some shapes and to match objects as part of developing their mathematical skills. She encouraged children to share their knowledge about ships and what maps are used for to extend their interests effectively.

p.3
