This provision is good
The manager and well-qualified staff team have worked hard since the last inspection to improve the service to children. Self-evaluation is used well to set achievable targets for development. Staff manage children's move to school well. They visit the school and enjoy activities that help to develop their concentration and listening skills. Children make good progress. Staff promote children's language development well. They increase children's vocabulary and skilfully question them during activities. Children learn to keep themselves safe. Small tasks, such as helping to mop up spills, help them understand about taking responsibility for their well-being and that of others. Staff respond well to children's interests. Staff help to foster children's curiosity about living things and the natural world. For example, children care for snails they find outside.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Parents do not fully contribute to initial assessments of children's starting points. Occasionally, some staff do not always skilfully question and listen to children as effectively as possible.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance the information parents provide about their children's starting points, to help progress children's learning even further strengthen the ability of all staff to consistently question and listen to children, to further build on their good thinking skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a meeting with the nursery provider who is also the manager. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the nursery's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery. The inspector spoke to staff and children throughout the inspection. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The manager has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She monitors the educational programme effectively. Data obtained from this is used to help ensure that any gaps in children's learning are quickly identified and narrowed. Staff development is given a high priority. Appraisals and supervision are used effectively to identify staff training needs. Training in the use of rhymes and songs has contributed to improving children's language development. Safeguarding is effective and staff know who to contact if they have any concerns about children's welfare. Recruitment procedures are robust and help to ensure staff are suitable to work with children. Daily risk assessments also contribute to making the nursery safe for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff plan activities so that all areas of learning are covered. They use observations well to plan the next steps in children's learning and to help them make progress. Children are motivated and enthusiastic learners. During a recent science week they put marshmallows in a range of solutions, such as salt water. They are eagerly awaiting the results of these experiments and check daily what has happened. Older children begin to recognise and write the letters in their names. This is a skill that will help them be prepared for school. Children develop a growing awareness of information technology, for example, by using applications on a tablet. Younger children enjoy painting and show imagination and skill as they use cotton buds to paint in fine detail. Overall, parents are well informed about children's progress and work with staff to continue children's learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. Staff are good role models and gently remind them to share and use good manners. Settling-in periods are geared around individual children's needs and home visits are also offered. Children's emotional well-being is promoted effectively as they become familiar with staff. Children enjoy home-cooked meals and snacks of fresh fruit. Staff talk to them about healthy lifestyles. Children enjoy being outside and access a good range of resources. They also use large equipment at the park, such as a slide. They experience challenges which develop their physical skills well. Children are learning to be independent as they cut their fruit with knives, and put on their shoes and coats. They are developing skills that will help them be well prepared for school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points in all areas of learning. They are developing good independence skills as they put on their shoes and coats. This helps to prepare them well for their next stage in learning or move to school.
