Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the home that are used for childminding. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures, and the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability, training and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant. The inspector spoke to parents and took account of the written views of parents expressed in letters read during the inspection. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder has an excellent understanding of statutory requirements. Children's safety is central to all that the childminder does and the arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Robust policies, procedures and systems are in place to protect children and promote their well-being. The childminder is passionate about her role. She evaluates her practice, considering the views of parents and children, with the aim of delivering the highest-quality service. She effectively manages her own and her assistant's ongoing professional development. Her strong commitment to continually strengthening her understanding and practice leads to an outstanding provision for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The quality of the childminder's teaching is excellent. As children play, she skilfully promotes their critical thinking. For example, children explore a set of different sized pots with lids. They match lids by size to the correct pots and become fascinated by how the pots fit inside one another. By trial and error, they put the pots and lids together in size order. The childminder asks them questions which challenge and support their thinking. She builds on their growing mathematical understanding as she helps them to compare sizes. She encourages them to maintain their concentration and persevere until they have solved the problem and then reinforces their sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. The childminder carefully weaves in opportunities during games and activities to encourage children to count, recognise numerals and to talk about quantity and shape. Children receive an excellent grounding in early literacy. They relish listening to and

joining in with stories, songs and rhymes. They learn that print has meaning and use a wide range of interesting media to draw and make marks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder cares deeply for all the children she looks after and they thrive in her care. She is highly skilled at recognising and responding to their individual needs and interests. The childminder expertly nurtures children's self-esteem and sense of belonging and responsibility. She involves them in simple tasks, such as tidying away resources and helping to set the table for lunch. She fosters their self-care skills and independence extremely well, relative to their ages and capabilities. The childminder actively promotes children's understanding about how to keep themselves safe. For instance, she teaches them about road safety and raises older children's awareness about being safe online. Younger children regularly mix with other children and adults, and build confidence in different social situations. They learn about other people and families beyond their own. However, the childminder is aware there is room to enhance their understanding of
