This provision is good

 Children build very secure relationships with each other and the childminder. They thoroughly enjoy playing and learning together. The friendly childminder offers a caring and nurturing environment for children. They express their affection for her as they snuggle up to her after waking from their sleep and turn to her when they occasionally require reassurance.  The childminder places a high priority in promoting children's communication and language development. She introduces them to new words that relate to their play. The childminder uses simple sign language and skilfully adjusts her speech in relation to children's level of understanding to help their listening skills and speech.  The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to continuing to develop her skills and knowledge. She attends regular training and researches specialist subjects online.  Children are active and inquisitive learners. They engage in interesting and exciting

learning experiences that fully reflect their interests. Therefore, all children make good progress in their learning in readiness for school. They enjoy visits with the childminder to farms, garden centres and a crocodile farm.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to help children to develop their thinking skills, in order to find solutions to overcome problems in their play and learning.  The initial information about children's learning that the childminder obtains from parents is not always sharply focused to fully support her early identification of children's precise learning needs.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make the most of opportunities for children to solve problems for themselves in their play and learning  extend the level of initial information obtained from parents to include further detail of children's development to plan even more precisely for their continued progress from an early stage.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during indoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times.  The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly discussed this with the childminder.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records, a selection of policies, safety procedures and required documentation.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her partner who lives at the premises.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.  The inspector reviewed how the provider evaluates her setting to continually improve outcomes for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The enthusiastic childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to meet and implement the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and other government requirements. The arrangements for safeguarding children are effective. For example, the childminder knows how to swiftly meet children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. She thoroughly reviews the learning programmes and children's progress. She also continuously evaluates and reflects on her practice with a view to developing the service she provides even further. The childminder consults with parents, children and other childminders to ensure their views are included. Successful partnership working with other settings that children attend support their continuity of learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The qualified childminder's knowledge of the children is gained through her observations of their achievements and assessments. Overall, this enables her to identify their next steps in learning. The childminder has a good understanding of reinforcing children's knowledge through the repetition of activities. Children learn what a stethoscope is used for. They practise how to carefully position a toy one in their ears and pretend to listen to each other's heartbeat. Children engage in challenging activities for extended periods of time given their young age. The childminder introduces them to a wide range of mathematical ideas. They learn to identify and match shapes and also use wooden building blocks to build and balance. Children shriek with delight as they enjoy using their whole body to roll in a pile of shredded paper. They notice how the different textures of paper stick to some parts of their clothing and hair. Parents describe the childminder as

very professional and appreciate her genuine care and concern for children. They are kept well informed of their children's achievements and how to support their learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder offers a stimulating learning environment where children are able to help themselves to a wide range of good quality toys and play equipment. Children behave very well. The childminder is a positive role model for them. She consistently reinforces good manners and helps children to respect their environment. The childminder praises them for the efforts and provides them with gentle reminders of how to keep themselves safe. Regular visits with the childminder to a wide range of organised groups and activities in the local community helps to extend children's self-confidence, as they meet and play with other children. Children have excellent opportunities to develop good physical skills. They visit local parks and soft-play centres to help build up their strength and stamina.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good levels of progress in their learning in relation to their starting points in readiness for school. The childminder has adopted some of the same teaching systems used within the local schools. This helps children to make a seamless move on to school when the time comes. Therefore, children are very well prepared for their move on to school.
