Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact on children's learning. The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector talked to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a sample of paperwork, including policies, assessments and children's records. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day and parents' views provided in letters.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to promote children's welfare and learning, and does this well. Safeguarding is effective. Clear policies and procedures underpin the childminder's good practice to help keep children safe and to promote their well-being. She takes precautions to protect children. For example, she carries out risk assessments in her home and for outings. The childminder reflects on her practice and values parents' views about the quality of her setting. She has good relationships with parents and keeps them informed of their children's progress. The childminder works closely with other childminders. She arranges activities together and shares good practice to improve the quality of her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses information from parents, along with her own observations, to assess children's skills. Overall, the quality of teaching is strong and children make good progress. The childminder knows how to develop activities to extend children's learning and enjoyment. For example, when she reads a story book featuring different fruits, she provides fresh fruit as a prop. She uses the story to introduce new vocabulary and the fresh fruit is explored and tasted. The childminder makes good use of opportunities to promote children's language and their mathematical skills, such as encouraging them to count. She chats and interacts well with children during activities and skilfully extends their thinking and knowledge, for instance, by talking about healthy eating. The childminder effectively supports children to gain the skills that they need to be ready for the next stage in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For example, they use knives carefully to cut up their fruit snacks. The childminder encourages children's independence and personal care skills are promoted well, relative to their ages and capabilities. She maintains good links with the local pre-school and school to help manage the move for children when the time comes. The childminder promotes children's health and well-being effectively and provides good opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, children enjoy regular active play outside.
p.3
