This provision is good

 The experienced and qualified childminder and her assistants are committed to ensuring that all children reach their full potential. Children are motivated to learn and make good progress.  Children are treated with kindness and respect in this homely environment. They are happy and demonstrate that they feel safe and emotionally secure. This gives them a secure foundation from which to explore the environment and engage in their learning.  The childminder and her assistants establish effective partnerships with parents and other professionals. Children benefit from consistency and continuity in their care and learning. Parents value the service provided and comment positively.  The childminder and her assistants successfully identify and minimise hazards in the childminder's home and on outings to ensure children remain safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The organisation of group time is not always effective in maintaining younger children's attention.  Procedures to mentor and support the quality of the assistants' teaching is not yet sharply focused enough on enhancing their existing good skills and knowledge.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the organisation of group activities to take account of children's differing needs and abilities  refine the mentoring and support for childminding assistants to help them raise the quality of teaching and children's achievements to outstanding levels.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of the childminder and her assistants' teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day and from documentation completed by them.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder demonstrates a dedication and enthusiasm towards her work. She strives to ensure children are kept safe, learn and have fun. She effectively uses self-evaluation to support continuous improvement. The childminder ensures her safeguarding and paediatric first-aid training is up to date and is continuing to access training to further enhance her current good practice. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistants understand the action to take should they have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder works closely with her assistants to plan activities and ensure daily routines are implemented effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistants effectively observe and assess children's development and use this information to plan and monitor their progress. They introduce new vocabulary, such as whizz and bang, as children paint pictures of fireworks. Younger children are supported to progress from single words to forming short sentences. Older children use language well to express their needs. The childminder and her assistants share story books with children and encourage them to sing rhymes, such as Row, row, row your boat. Children squeal with excitement in fear of being eaten by a crocodile. They are encouraged to handle and explore wooden, plastic and metal objects and are asked relevant questions as they play. However, very occasionally, the childminder's assistants do not always give children enough time to consider the answer to questions they are asked. Children are supported to learn to recognise their name and written numbers

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children enjoy the childminder and her assistants' company. They develop friendships and receive praise and encouragement for their efforts and achievements. As a result, children smile and demonstrate a sense of pride. Children are supported to manage their own feelings, to respect one another and take their turn. They support charity events, and join in harvest festival celebrations at the local church. This successfully broadens children's range of experiences. Children learn about healthy lifestyles through active exercise and nutritious meals and snacks. Mealtimes are successfully used to promote the children's social development and good table manners.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in readiness for the next stage of their learning, including school. Children learn to take responsibility and are encouraged to do things for themselves, such as helping to tidy away the toys.
