This provision is good
The childminder updates her practice and her policies and procedures. She is aware of changing legislation and remains motivated to enhance and improve her quality of teaching. The childminder's observations of what children can do are accurate and based upon her secure understanding of their development. She encourages parents to share their knowledge of children to form precise starting points in learning. This helps the childminder to plan activities that challenge children and successfully move them forward in their development. The childminder talks to children about their family members and helps them to develop a strong sense of their own identity. Well-chosen resources equally help children to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. The childminder encourages parents' involvement in children's learning. She appreciates the value of working with other providers and is professional and

It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities for children to practise their early writing skills are not always as available as other activities that children choose for themselves. The childminder's self-evaluation does not always fully make use of parents' feedback and her own findings to rapidly improve and continue to sustain, the highest possible standards for children.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members. The inspector spoke with children and discussed children's activities with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding children are effective. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms that might cause her concern about children's welfare. She is aware of how to report any concerns about children's well-being to the relevant professionals. The childminder reviews the toys and resources she provides for children to make sure they provide them with stimulation and interest. The childminder is confident in her abilities and her knowledge. She seeks out training to enhance her good understanding even further. The childminder has recently undertaken training about how to support children's communication and language skills. This has had an evidently positive impact upon her practice as this aspect of her teaching is particularly strong.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a wide range of activities for children. They enjoy singing, using rhymes and looking at books as they develop their interest in words and sounds. Children play with musical instruments and show their imagination as they role-play tea-time with the childminder. The childminder provides wooden toys with stacking blocks and pegs that intrigue children. They persevere with the activity until they have achieved what they desire and show pride in their achievements. Children's desire to keep trying and figure out how things work shows their developing confidence in their abilities. The childminder's good teaching and enthusiasm for her work inspires children and they delight in her company and welcome her into their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well from the very beginning with the childminder. She works effectively with parents to share information about children's routines so she can follow them. The childminder's affection towards young children helps them to feel safe and secure. She recognises the importance of children's comfort items during the period when they are settling in. Children learn to be healthy. The childminder shows them good hygiene routines, such as washing her hands after nappy changing. Children eat healthy snacks and the childminder encourages them to drink water to help their bodies to grow. Young children begin to assert their wishes. The childminder tells them what will happen next so they have plenty of warning of changes and some involvement in deciding when these will happen. Children enjoy playing in the garden and exploring the changing seasons. They collect leaves and items from outdoors to make collages and pictures when they return
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder uses accurate observations and assessment to review children's development. Her good quality teaching and ability to provide activities that challenge children, contributes to their good progress. Children develop the skills that they need to be ready for eventually, starting school.
